Do I want a Beta Reader or a Critique Partner?

I thought I would post some things in light of all the conversation about expectations, etc. My advice is to always, always, always communicate. Wants, needs, etc. to make sure it is a good fit for both parties involved. A relationship between reader and writer is important and lack of communication of expectations can lead to grumpy or unsatisfied individuals on either (or both) ends. Also-- do your research. Know what it is you want or will settle with. Not every reader is the same and can offer the same as another.
With that said, look into the expectations of a 'beta reader' versus a 'critique partner.' Definitions and expectations do very (and sometimes quite considerably). But the main difference is that beta readers are just that-- 'readers' whereas CPs are writing partners. I've attached some thoughts that may be helpful. However, always do your own research and communicate your own expectations and comfort level-- whether you are the reader or the author.
