I figured I'd go ahead and post this, so that everyone would have plenty of time to sign up before June 1st, when the competition will officially start.

So, the Copy Cat Challenge is pretty simple. For this challenge, participants will be paired up in groups of two. The duo who reads the most books in June wins. But here's the catch - you can only select books from titles that are listed in BOTH to-be read list. Thus the name "Copy Cat."

This is the first competition to take place here at Fans of Amish Fiction. Please let us know what you think of it! If everyone turns out to like it, we just might add other competitions in the future! ^.^

List of Participants

Brittany
Rachel
Kate
Alegnab
Janet
Rebecca

Yay! Hopefully we can get an even number of participants come June, lol.

Kate (liahonagirl) Sounds intriguing . . . I'll play along! :)

Yay! Thanks for joining, Kate!

message 7: by AlegnaB † (new)

AlegnaB † (alegnab) Let me get this straight. You would compare your books to your partner's using the "Compare Books" button. You would then, along with your partner, pick out books that you both want to read, and the books will only count for the challenge if you both read the books during June. The books can be from any genre, since you didn't stipulate that they have to be Amish fiction. Is that right?

What if you team up people who have almost no books in common? Of course, if most of us have been getting the free Kindle books that are offered every day, it won't be hard to find books in common. I've probably gotten most of the Christian fiction books for Kindle that have been offered during the past two years.

I'll participate.

message 8: by AlegnaB † (new)

AlegnaB † (alegnab) So, I went to the profiles for you gals, and I played with the "Compare Books" page. The page doesn't show all the books in common. I supposedly have 524 books in common with Rachel. It wouldn't let me click on the 524 to see all the books in common, but I was able to click on the number of books not in common for both Rachel and myself. When I clicked on Rachel's, I immediately saw several books that I have on my shelves. Something doesn't seem to be working quite right.

That's correct. The books can be from any genre and count so long as you and your partner read them in June and as long as they are on both your to-read shelves. We probably won't have a problem in which there are no books at all in common (my guess is that we'll at least have some Amish books in common, as well as the freebies you mentioned) but in the case that it does happen, I can switch you up with a partner that you do have books in common with.

Wow, that's strange. I went and tried it out and it worked fine for me. Perhaps it was just wonky that first time? Or maybe it might be affected by whether or not you're friends with the person? :/

message 11: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Alegnab, I tried comparing shelves with you but it won't let me as we're not friends. Maybe that's the problem? I'll add you and see if that changes anything.

message 12: by Janet (new)

Janet | 153 comments I will give this a shot, sounds kind of fun.

message 13: by AlegnaB † (new)

AlegnaB † (alegnab) Rachel,

I just approved your friend request, compared books, and got the same info as before. To test it out on your end, you would need to compare books with me, and then look at the top of the page. Where it says something like, "Alegnab's books: 3766 (3249 not in common)" click on the 3249 (or whatever number is in parentheses). See if there are any books from your shelves on there.

It looks like it's showing the "all" shelf instead of only items that are different. So, the link should be with the total books number instead of the "not in common" number. I guess it doesn't matter. It's the "Books in common" feature that is useful. I just wish it would show all of them. I'm seeing 99 of 524 books that we have in common.

Yeah, it seems like it only shows a small portion of the books we have in common, which isn't ideal. It's currently showing me 86 books that we have in common. It's a start, but it would be nice to see all of them!

message 16: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Brittany, I have a question for you! Do you have to read the same books as your copy-cat buddy, or just anything that's on both of your to-read lists?

message 17: by Amber (new)

Amber | 2 comments I already have a few books I put on hold for June... but I would love to do this in July!

message 18: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 340 comments Mod
You'll have to be reading the same books as your copy-cat Buddy. This way, you'll both be able to check the book off your bookshelf. It also adds more of a challenge, as you really have to work with each other to win the challenge. :)

message 19: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Thanks for clarifying! Sounds even more intriguing now. I'll give it my best shot :)

message 20: by Kate (new)

Kate (liahonagirl) Unfortunately, something's come up and I am no longer able to participate in the June challenge. Good luck to those who are! :)

message 21: by AlegnaB † (new)

AlegnaB † (alegnab) That makes five people. If nobody else decides to join, I'll drop out.

Brittany | 340 comments Mod
Do we want to extend the sign-ups, see as there are only five (four?) people? Rachel, do you know anyone who might like to join in? I'd hate to cancel it. :/

message 23: by Janet (new)

Janet | 153 comments Is there a way to make sure more people see it? It would be fun to have more people play.

message 24: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) I don't mind extending sign-ups for a few more days! Perhaps we can send out a reminder message letting everyone know they have a few more days to sign up?

message 25: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Or, of it's easier to delay starting until July, we could do that? I'll do my best to join in during July, but if the baby comes early I'm afraid I might disappear from the internet for a little while ;)

This sounds like fun, but I'm a slow reader and wouldn't want to hold my partner up.

message 28: by Rebecca "Rebaka" (new)

Rebecca "Rebaka" Lewis (becca4ever) | 51 comments I'm also pretty slow but think this will be fun. Not sure how this works but am excited.

Maybe we'd make good partners! OK, I'll give it a try. Add me in!!

message 30: by Rebecca "Rebaka" (new)

Rebecca "Rebaka" Lewis (becca4ever) | 51 comments Rachel, Barbara Ann and I would like to be partners. Not sure how you will pick but...just saying:)

You'll have to wait until Brittany checks back in as she's running this challenge!

message 33: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 340 comments Mod
I think we decided to just postpone it until July. We didn't have that many people sign up...

message 34: by Janet (new)

Janet | 153 comments I am going to pull my name right now - I like this challenge but this is not the time for me to do it.

message 35: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I have a question. If you read faster than your partner, can you read other books in addition to the copy cat ones?

message 36: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 340 comments Mod
Sure, I don't see why not. :)

message 37: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Then, I'll try it then.
