Persephone was walking through a quiet clearing in the forest, picking flowers from the ground. It didn't matter what colour, she was weaving them into crowns--one for herself, and one for her mother. If--when she had extra time, she would make more for the nymphs and dryads that were her friends. Each flower she picked grew back within moments, sprouting from the ground with vibrance and beauty. Persephone didn't know how many days she had spent like this; probably most of her life. Although her Demeter was gone much more often now than she had used to be. Persephone didn't know where her mother went nor for what purpose, but she knew that Demeter always asked the same thing--that she not stray too far from their home.

Kallias hated, hated getting injured. Especially in ways like today, in a training session of all places. The swordsman had been too happy to prove that Kallias had not yet mastered the art, that he wasn't ready to face real battles. The demigod had been left with multiple scratches along his arms and legs, and one particularly bad gash along his torso. None were enough to kill him, but it was enough that he knew he would soon become dizzy from the blood loss if he didn't stop the bleeding. So it was in a terrible mood that he made his way to the medic.

Fallen (fallencatalyst) Hades watched her carefully from where he hid among the trees. Hades wanted her, she was bright and vibrant, full of life. That was so different from him and were he lived. He knew there was no normal way that he could get her to like him and maybe someday become his wife. But still, he wanted to try whatever he could. Hades took a breath and stepped out of the trees into the clearing. "How do you do that? Weave them?" He asked her curiously, hoping she wouldn't recognize him or freak out.

---

Alaric walked around the small medic building, cleaning up and organizing the stuff that had been moved out of place. She drove the few other nurses/doctors there crazy with that. To her, everything had to be neat and organized. It bothered her if it was a mess, it made working hard for her if she had to hunt around for stuff. Her blond hair was in a braid down her back, mostly out of her face. She heard Kallias walk in and looked up. "What happened this time?" She asked curiously, used to him showing up there.

((hey sorry I had a really crappy week at school and I wasn't on at all))

Persephone was unaware of the presence watching her from the trees--she had no reason to look closely or be concerned, she had never encountered anyone besides her mother and some nymphs in this forest. So when someone stepped out, seeming as if he had appeared from the shadows themselves, she took a step back, her eyes widening. She stared at him a moment before answering, trying to judge who or what she was, but she had no idea, and it was her nature to assume the best of anyone. "Oh it's easy, really. I can show you, if you'd like?"

~~~
"Just a training session" Kallias said simply, not wanting to get into the humiliation and embarrassment of his morning. The medic was pretty, and while she never made him feel bad about his injuries (most of which he gained in admittedly stupid ways), he didn't want to make himself look like an incapable idiot. Nor did he want to remember the sparring session, because if he began to think about it he would only think about all the things he had done wrong, and that would ruin his entire day. Maybe even the week.
Fallen (fallencatalyst) (It's okay, I understand.)
"Really? You'd be willing to show me?" He asked, almost a bit surprised. Hades kept his hands at his sides, to show he wasn't any sort of a threat as he walked over to her. He rarely came to the surface, especially since the other gods seem to hate when he did. So the rare times he did visit the surface, he liked to be near nature, it was a lot better than dirt and ash.
----
Alaric nodded. "Alright. Take a seat." She told him, getting some cloth for bandages along with water to clean out the wound. She bit her lip lightly, walking over to him. "You get hurt quite a lot I've noticed. You may want to be a bit more cautious." She commented.
Emma | 1267 comments "Sure!" Persephone said. There was a voice in the back of her mind, telling her to be careful, telling her that this was a bad idea, but she pushed it down. Her mother had told her to stay near the cabin. She had done that. She sat down among the flowers, gesturing for him to sit next to her. She plucked a few more flowers from the ground, so she'd have extras. "It'll be easier if you work on the one I've already started." She said, holding it out for him.
------
"So I've heard." Kallias said, giving her a roguish grin. The chair he sat in was standard for minor injuries, he found himself in it or one similar on a weekly basis. Sometimes multiple times in a week, actually. A part of him knew that he should save his strength, should be more careful. If he was injured badly enough while training...he'd never be able to go and make something of his life. But if he didn't push himself, he'd never improve, never be able to impress his father.
Fallen (fallencatalyst) Hades looked around, taking a seat next to her. He left a couple feet of space between them, hoping she wouldn't notice how cold he was or anything that might raise her suspicions. "Oh alright, thanks." He said, taking the one she'd started from her. He inspected it carefully, tilting his head slightly to one side.
--
"Oh whatever." She smiled lightly and rolled her eyes at him. "Just be glad that it's me in here, not one of the other ladies. They'd probably go running to your commander or whatever saying something along the lines of, 'Oh, you're pushing that young man way too hard, he keeps getting hurt.'" Alaric said, her voice going somewhat higher, like she was trying to sound like an old lady when she quoted what they'd say. She gently cleaned out the wound, biting her bottom lip.
Emma | 1267 comments Persephone found herself watching this stranger perhaps more closely than she should. But he was so intriguing, she had never met anyone that her mother hadn't introduced her to, and he was so unlike any of the nymphs. Everything about them was light, each looking like a flower, or some other part of nature. This man was dark, almost looking out of place in the sunshine-filled meadow. "So you kind of just want to weave the stems in around the braid I made." She had never really had to explain this before. "And just try and place them at even distances." She quickly braided some flowers together in a hoop, making a second base so she could show him properly. "I'm Persephone, by the way."
~~
Kallias genuinely laughed at the healer's impression of the older women she worked with--he had been treated by some of them before and had to say that she was spot on. It had taken him promising not to work to hard along with at least a half hour of telling them he was pushing himself before they had given up doing exactly what she had described. One of his hands curled into a fist as she began cleaning the wound, though he didn't flinch or otherwise show that he was in any pain. "Well thank you. For not running to my commander." He watched her as she treated his injuries, her blonde hair and fragile-looking hands.
Fallen (fallencatalyst) Hades listened to her instructions, studying the beginning of one that she had given him to try and understand how she did it. He nodded. "Alright." Hades slowly attempted to braid the flowers together and add them to the chain. He kept his head tilted slightly to one side as he often did when he was focusing. "Persephone, that's a pretty name." He commented. "I'm Hades..." He said softly, worried she knew of him and would freak out.
~~
Alaric smiled lightly when he laughed but noticed him clenching his hand into a fist. "Sorry, I'm trying to be gentle." She said softly, cleaning out the wound. She didn't want to risk it getting infected. "Well, you're welcome. I don't happen to like him much so avoiding him works out just fine for me." Alaric shrugged. A few bits of her hair started to fall loose from her braid, framing her face. Alaric quickly finished up cleaning the wound and began to bandage it.
Emma | 1267 comments The name sounded familiar, but Persephone couldn't place where she had heard it before. Her mind went back to an evening with her mother. Demeter had been telling her about the Olympians, she thought, but there were so many names and she hadn't found the information necessary at the time. She wasn't sure what to say, didn't know if she should or shouldn't know who this person was. "That's a nice name as well." She tried, hoping that she wasn't offending him.
~~
"How long have you been a healer for?" Kallias asked, the easy conversation helping to distract him from the pain. He was sure she had treated him before, but he was in here a lot, and the faces and times seemed to blur together sometimes. He realized he couldn't train at all for the rest of the day, maybe even the next, as she bandaged him up. Unless he wanted to get blood everywhere, which he would then have to clean up. "And when's your shift over?" he asked, wondering if he could convince her to get lunch with him.
message 63: by Fallen (new)
Fallen (fallencatalyst) Hades shrugged. "Thanks." He smiled lightly at her. He continued to slowly try and continue the flower chain. "So what were you doing out here? Just getting flowers for these or?" He asked, holding up the chain and tilting his head at her.
---
Alaric had to think for a moment. "umm, almost a year now. But I was always helping out here or wherever before that..." She explained quietly, glancing to his face before back at the wound she was wrapping. She shrugged. "Technically, I don't have a shift. I'm just here most of the time and help whoever comes in unless one of the others is requested or whatever..."
