Words per day? Best time of day you like to write?

I prefer to write in the evenings. My fiancée goes to bed early so between 2300 to 0300 is my prime writing time. I have no distraction so it means I can focus and get stuff done.
As R said, something is better than nothing. Excellent point!

I don't do word goals or page goals either. My writing goal for each day is just to write something every day, be it just a paragraph or several pages. When I feel I'm not writing enough, I'll be more likely to set a time goal than a word goal, when I'll set an alarm and sit down and write until the alarm goes off (usually when I do that it's for an hour). If I set word goals I just keep checking the word count and obsessing about how many words I've written, andI want my mind on the story rather than the number of words or pages I've done, so for that reason I don't set those kinds of goals.

good luck with the writing :)

Thanks S...and thanks for friending me :)

As far as word count, it ranges from 0 to 5,000 words a day.

When I was writing my first story, I had a minimum goal of about 2000 words per day. Now that I'm working on its sequel, the rate has slowed to about 1500 words. Once the writing picks up speed, though, I can easily put down five hundred words at a time without realizing it. As the story progresses and I have a better idea of its direction, the words-per-day seem to increase.
I absolutely advocate writing in the morning when you're alone, though. I can't accomplish a single thing once other people join me.

When I write short stories, I find I can get in a rhythm and crank out 3,000+ words in a day--maybe even write an entire 5,000 story. For novels, it varies. If I have a clear storyboard of where I'm headed, I can write 2,000+ words, but if I'm struggling with a chapter or element of the story, I might not get 200 words down that day. Regardless, I never set a target.

I also blog and do a guest blog post for writers on Thursdays which takes time to set up.

Patti, I'm the same way! I still havent slept from last night because I was up writing all night. I do like to limit myself however. I think my changes moods make for a better story. Today I am mad, and foreshadowing I am going to murder a character... then tomorrow I kill off the wrong one! lol

Personally, I try for 2,000 words per day, but I'm aiming for 3,000-4,000 per day in the future.
