Thoughts about her?

I loved that Asterin was the only one to stand up to Manon and that she did so out of complete faith and devotion. Having learned her story I am in awe of her strength and will. She is definitely someone I would want as my Second and throughout the books I feel inspired by her :)
Every time it mentioned the stillborn witching and the hunter dude in EoS, I just broke down crying.
I really feel for Asterin (at times even more than Manon) what with all the hate from Grandma Douchebag. I mean, why? And I kind of still hope, like a pointless belief a.k.a. au headconon, that that hunter is still alive somewhere, I,don't know how, and they unite. Even if Asterin meets him in his last moments. And I break down bad at the part where she says that the hunter waited every day of his life for her, never marrying, never moving on and just died after that. It reminds me of Gone, gone, gone by Philip Phillips. Then that Matron had to pile up her sadness with the witchling, her mark and never letting Manon feel for Asterin.
I would -love- an Asterin novella. Or even a short story. In my opinion, she's one of the best characters Maas has created. There is so much depth to her, and I admire her indomitable spirit. I think her, Aelin, Lysandra, and Ansel would be a blast! I'd include Manon in that group, but she needs to lighten up a bit, first.
^^ Me, too. The only thing is that we know Asterin like the person we look up to. I want to know her like my best friend, but Maas has kind of sidetracked her. I don't like that she only appears for Manon's benefit and I want to really, really know her.
I've had this feeling for a while (since book 4) that Manon's Grandmother lied about her child, and that there is a possibility that Elide's mother/grandmother was actually Asterin's child. That would explain the blue blood in her veins, and why Abraxos took to her so well, she is from the same blood line as Manon, as she and Asterin are cousins.

' "She was stillborn. I waited to hear that cry of triumph, but there was only silence. Silence, and then your grandmother..." She opened her eyes. "Your grandmother struck me. She beat me. Again and again. All I wanted was to see my witchling, and she ordered them to have her burned instead. She refused to let me see her." ' - I think that maybe her witchling could have survived, but Manon's grandmother lied about it, and maybe the child did not bleed blue or maybe was deemed to be too human, and that was the reason Asterin was told that she was dead. Or could be that as they were taking the child away, it came to life and was smuggled away. Just a theory, but one thats been with me since I first read 'Queen of Shadows'!
Am I understanding correctly that every witchling born of a witch is female (unless you're a *rare* Crochan prince)? --so then who sires the witchlings? Men? (on the continent of Erilea, there's not really any other male population except mortal men....) So then every witchling born of a witch is half witch (which is a Fae-Valg mixture) and another race, but they always take after mom, and are full-witch if claimed by the witches?
Or do witches also have some/just-as-many male babes? (and are therefore related and can hardly reproduce with their own witch-kind?)
@_@;;;; Where's Ghislaine when we need her?
Mmhm.So...back to Asterin.
Witches essentially only have female babies?
Unless you're a Crochan royal and can have the occasional princeling?

Exactly. I don't get how a male witch works.

Let's make an Ask Ghislaine thread so next time Sarah goes on tour we have a list of things to ask her.
Maybe only the royalty can breed males? Because even if they are just really rare, what are the odds that the royal family had one?

Oh god, Asterin is definitely one of my favourite characters. I love that she always stood up to Manon about what she thought was right. Asterin and Manon fit so well together, I love them both.

Asterin is so loyal and does what she thinks is right, but she's also so fierce yet cares more than the other members of the Thirteen do- at least, that's how I see her.
Okay then this discussion hasn't been updated in LITERALLY FOREVER so I'm just gonna sob here in the corner while I eat cake and re-read that one part in KoA

I have to say that what Manon's grandmother did to Asterin was horrible.

Asterin was and will forever be one of my favourite characters in ToG. SHE WAS GREAT and absolutely did NOT deserve to be treated the way she was by Manons grandmother. I imagine her being happy now, in the cottage with her hunter (it was a hunter, right? Or am I senile?). She deserves a happy ending, a happy ever after

Same! I adored Asterin.
She is a steady and loyal friend, ally, and sister-at-arms. She sticks up for Manon in ways no ever does. And her backstory is just so sad. I wish she'd have met a happier ending

I loved Asterin so much. And same- I had to put the book down, I was crying so hard at that part...
