Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) Not if you just keep your mouth shut :)

Thomas Everson (authorthomaseverson) Well. I appear to be late to this party and all the good points have been taken. :P

I'm going to include a movie title here, but know this applies to the whole of naming anything. AE: Apocalypse Earth. Why in the hell would you even put "AE:" in front of it? It might as well have been named "Apocalypse Earth: Apocalypse Earth".

Lily Vagabond (lilyauthor) Thomas, we're not bashing bad titles lol Just chatting about how to choose a good title.

message 104: by Thomas (new)

Thomas Everson (authorthomaseverson) Ah well then I feel dumb for bringing it up.

C.G. (CG_Garcia) | 86 comments I just ran across a book titled: I Slept With Slender Man! I don't think you can get any more blatant than that. Lol

...Sounds almost as bad as "Getting Laid by the Golem."

BK Blue (paradoxically) | 30 comments Personally, I like titles that are short and simple but allude to the book in a somewhat elusive way.

It's not easy thinking up titles, so when all else fails, I say you should go for wit and wordplay. It gets my attention, at least. lol

I'm a fan of one words. Not a demand but they always strike me as clever if a single word can entice and be true to the story.

Tiger Gray (tiger_gray) | 290 comments I usually get mine form poems, honestly

Jason Crawford (jasonpatrickcrawford) | 565 comments Interesting, because I don't like one word titles, in books or movies, generally. They seem almost lazy to me.

/shrug

Again, not a deal-breaker, just something I notice. "Twilight." "Divergent." I dunno.

message 116: by Tiger (new)

Tiger Gray (tiger_gray) | 290 comments Well one word titles do a good job of having a certain punch to them.

message 117: by Jason (new)

Jason Crawford (jasonpatrickcrawford) | 565 comments Yeah...I guess.

I just prefer description to punch. The word "Divergent," for example, has so many meanings that without other information I'm not going to pick it up. "So, what', it's about things moving away from each other? Is it a romance book? Is it apocalyptic? Dystopian? What?" I know that in a bookstore we have genre listings and all, but...I like the title to tell me something. If it's a series, put the series title in there, too; I like seeing that.

Easier to remember and it avoids trying too hard to impress or give a certain perception. Something always to be said for simplicity
