Nicole Locker | 183 comments I thought I would try something fun for the book I'm working on, which I *HOPE* to finish in the next couple of weeks!! I'm SOOOOO CLOSE!

There's one scene I haven't written yet, where my two main characters go on a date to a baseball game. He's trying to win her over, and she's trying not to fall for him, even though she won't admit that she already has, and she's stubborn as all get out.

So for anyone who posts an idea/ideas on things that could make a baseball game date "hot" (and I don't mean from the Texas heat) that I end up incorporating into my story will get a shout-out in the acknowledgements section of my book! (Hello, free exposure!)

I'm calling this "research," since I've never actually been on a date to a baseball game myself.

Tara Woods Turner | 78 comments They have a mild disagreement. She goes off in a huff to buy a bottle of water. Just as she exits the section everyone is going crazy trying to be the one to catch a fly ball headed their way. Bumped hard by an over eager fan with blue paint on his face she staggers until two strong, suddenly familiar arms catch her.

On the giant Kiss Cam a man proposes to his girlfriend. The crowd cheers like crazy. When your heroine looks she is thrilled to see that they are two rows below the couple and are therefore on the screen. She sees everyone staring up, excited, except for him. He is only staring at her.

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) Catches a foul ball with one hand that would've hit her otherwise...

(I almost caught a ball one time and it made me so mad I missed it. *grumbles*)

A sweet message on the big screen...hmmm...not sure how far this scene is in the book, so it could be anything really.

Does she like baseball to begin with? Like how die hard of a fan is she?

I'm a huge baseball fan! Like seriously, I have a game on right now...Reds vs. Cubs :) Go Reds! (True Twins fan though)

If chick's actually a fan of the team...

Dude pulls some strings and gets her a meet-and-greet (with her favorite player, perhaps?) who happens to take a liking to her. Baseball guy offers to show her around after the game all VIP-like, and dude acts like he doesn't care. Gives her the green light to go.

She gets back all giddy and excited, hops back in the car, goes on and on, gushing about baseball guy as drive away. Dude doesn't say a word for like 20 mins. Then suddenly he pulls over...

Chick: (confused) What are you doing?
Dude: Are you done yet?
Chick: Done what?
Dude: Talking about another man.
Chick: (surprised)But I thought you said...
Dude: (kisses her hard)
Chick: (stunned into silence)
Dude: I lied.

Okay, I'm not re-reading to edit that cuz...

Reasons.

Hugs,
Ann

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) Haha, Mistress Ann!

Brilliant:)

And yes, I want a meet and greet....why hasn't my husband done that yet?

Seriously, great idea, and one I probably would've said. *smiles*

Hey, Queen Amanda's hubby. I gotta talk to you. Step into my "office" for a quick sec. Thanks.

@Miss Nicole: Just so you know, I want so, so, sooo badly to edit the typos. The MULTIPLE typos. But I'm resisting. For now...

message 10: by Jane (new)

Jane Blythe Nicole I would love to help you out but I have never been to a baseball game, or a sports game of any sort! You guys still like me though, right?! (͠◉_◉᷅ )

Nicole Locker | 183 comments @Annie I must have skipped right over any typos... either that or you already went and edited! Haha but these are good ideas! I likey :)

@Jane of course we still like you! I honestly hate watching baseball. To me, it's right up there with watching golf. Now I'm the one saying don't hate me!

But when my girl first meets this guy, she says if she would've met him in some casual clothes at, say, a Ranger's game, she would've been all over that. Now he's actually taking her to a Ranger's game.

@Amanda It's pretty far into the story at the point of this scene. Like, the final showdown is right around the corner.

message 14: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) Oh okay, then, it's pretty far he could say something on the big screen (there's a final showdown I see) but he could always profess his love, marriage, that sort of thing.

Or buy the best seats in the house! haha...whatever that is. I always thought having front row behind home plate would be awesome. It's always super duper expensive.

Side note: When my husband and I go, we've gotten club house seats before (almost the second deck, I think) and they have all you can eat food...oh man, the best!)

And since's she's a fan, then definitely what Mistress Ann said, a meet and greet would be amazing. Or even something signed from her favorite player. Like, let's say, he catches a foul ball and then manages to sneak away and get it signed for her somehow. That would be cool.

That's all I got right now. *smiles*

Whew! And you're safe, we don't hate you either!!

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) Nicole,
I think Amanda's idea is fantastic... great seats and meeting a player he just happens to know...

Ann and Amanda, Please don't take offense to this. Please??
I wondering if catching a ball during the game is just a bit much. Sorry!!

@Miss Sue: Why would anyone take offense? Different opinions are awesome sauce. In any case...

I never said anything about catching a ball ^_~

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) Whoops! My bad! I mixed up something I read. Sorry! Oye!

Hahahaha, stop apologizing all the darn time!!

*hands you a bottle of happy juice*

Just drink the Koolaid, ya hear? ^_~

message 20: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) Ah, Sue, I take no offense. *smiles*

But seriously, catching a ball would be so awesome! Every time I go to a game I want a ball. It's so much fun to watch for them (not to mention in your best interest so you don't get hurt) and then try to catch one when it comes your way. A foul ball grazed my fingers one time and it hurt! So painful. I was so upset because I didn't actually catch it. All that pain for nothing. *starts to cry*

But yeah, I think catching a foul ball or even a home run would be so sweet if the guy did that. And then with a huge smile hands it to her. And if she's a baseball fan, she would probably love that:) Hmm, now I'm thinking a catching a home run would be cooler than a foul ball.

Recommending it would be a home run ball, if anything, Nicole:)

Sam (Rescue Dog Mom, Writer, Hugger) (sammydogs) Amanda,
As much as I like the Red Sox, even if Big Papa himself hit one at me, I'd hit the floor. Their throwing speed is 90 to 100 miles per hour. I won't risk my life for that.

message 22: by Bree (new)

Bree Verity (breeverity) I think he should be whispering rude stuff in her ear.
eg: I wish you'd catch my fly ball...
Batter up
I'm glad you don't bat for the wrong team
Going for the home run
What does getting to third base mean again?
You can play with my bat and balls

:-)

Sue, I'll catch it for you:) *holds out glove* *waits for Big Papa's ball to come*

Agreed!! Wonderful, Bree!

I can imagine just getting riled up in the crowd can be pretty steamy.

Perhaps her date gets just as caught up in the moment like she does (since you mentioned the heroine likes baseball) ; screaming for all his worth when someone does a homerun, wiping the sweat off his brow when things get intense and all that...? Seeing someone care about something with as much intensity as you do yourself can be incredibly romantic (and hot).

Perhaps she imagines him being one of the players? Think of the muscles needed to be able to sprint that fast, as well as hitting that ball. Woof :)

Nicole Locker | 183 comments I finally got around to writing my scene, and the winners of the awesome ideas I ended up going with, because they really fit well with the rest of the story, were Tara's (the crowd pushes Perla, Jax keeps her from falling, guy proposing to gf 2 rows back, they happen to be on the screen... which is seen by someone with sinister plans) and Annie (after the game, Jax takes Perla down to meet the players, which she is super excited about, though I don't go into detail of the actual meet and greet).

The scene was used for my flash fiction this week, and the link to my blog post for that is here: http://www.nicolerlocker.com/2016/10/...

Thank you everyone for your awesome ideas and your participation!!!
