We are going to try out a new board and see how it goes.

This board can be used for anyone who wants to post a limited-time free service or contest for a free service, etc. There were a bunch of these posts on the board for free beta services, and it was hard to tell when the service was going to move from free to paid.

If you have any questions or problems, please contact a moderator.

Thanks,
Julie

Kimi | 24 comments Can I still post here if it's a discount and not a free service?

No, discounts are still a paid service and should be posted in Paid Services Offered. You can also post on the Special Offers board. Thanks for asking.

Silvia (drumgenie) | 176 comments I have a question about posting. I already bumped my Paid Service post for Feb/March (I just did it earlier this week, I believe), however, I had an opening just come up in the next two weeks. How can I go about advertising that without stepping on anyone's toes?

Hello!

I would recommend editing your original post or edit that bumped post you are referring to. You can do that as many times as you want. Does that help? Let me know if you need help doing that. We are happy to help!

Silvia (drumgenie) | 176 comments Thanks so much, Dakota! Yes, that is what I was wondering if I could do. Thanks for clarifying!

Silvia (drumgenie) | 176 comments I have a question. I am offering two brand-new services and have revamped my website. Do I need to wait until it is time to bump my original post (the 15th of the month), or can I announce it now without breaking the rules?

Victoria Seymour | 20 comments Hi Julie,
I have a question for you:
I have seen the "This is NOT a book review group" post that says authors are not allowed to ask for reviews from the beta readers. Does this also mean that as a beta reader/proofreader I am not allowed to ask for testimonials from the authors?
I am a new beta reader/proofreader and will be offering free services to the authors to gain some experience before obtaining fee paying clients.
Thanks, Victoria

Hi Victoria! This means you can't ask for ARC reviews or Amazon reviews of your novel. You can ask and collect reviews of the work you've done as a service provider. Hope that helps, but let me know if you need more clarity :)

Victoria Seymour | 20 comments Hi Dakota! Thanks for your response, that is very good news. Thank you for clarifying, I didn't want to break any rules! :)

Sue McKerns | 35 comments Hi. I've read the rules, which say that we can't offer discounts here, only free promotions. But I see numerous ads for percentages off and other promotions that are not free. These are 2021 ads. Have the rules changed? Please clarify what now can and cannot be advertised. Thanks - Sue

Martin Rinehart Sue, I think it's this.
Services, such as beta reading and copyediting, may or may not be provided for compensation. Check group rules whether buying or selling.
Reviews may never be for pay, except that free review copies are an old and honored tradition.

Sue McKerns | 35 comments Thanks. I like to stay within the rules as things generally run more smoothly that way. Thanks for the input. Have a great weekend. - Sue

Ruth Johaningsmeir | 6 comments Is this still active? I'm offering my books for free a couple of days before Mother's Day 2024 on Kindle. The already published ones are available on unlimited, but I'll be publishing a new one: Grandma's on the Roof for Mother's day.
