((Okay xP))Bree gathered her things from beside her desk the second the bell rang. She stood up and waited for Arlin to walk over. "So do you have any plans tonight?" she asked her, walking to meet her a bit.
Arlington, who'd managed not to trip anyone with her backpack this time, looked up at Bree's question. "Ahh, I don't think so. Unless my parents are looking to surprise me." Which could happen, but there were no special occasions any time soon, so she kind of doubted it.
"Well, would you maybe want to go somewhere with me?" Bree asked, a little hesitantly, surprised at herself that she was able to ask this without backing out. "I don't really feel like being alone on a weekend now that I have someone that actually can tolerate being around me." she laughed.
Arlington broke into a grin. "Of course!" She said, straightening her backpack in her shoulders. "I'd love to!"
Bree felt her heart get ten times lighter. "Really?" she asked, still surprised that someone actually felt like being around her. "Well, where do you want to go?" she asked, beginning to walk with Arlin out to Bree's car.
Arlin paused for a second, thinking. "I actually don't know!" She said, "Do you have a place you like to go?"
"I like going to the park down the block from my house..." Bree admitted. "I used to go there as a kid. I go there some nights when I feel... Well, alone, I guess." Bree shrugged and spotted her car across the lot, walking towards it.
"We could go there, if you want," Arlin suggested, following Bree out to her car. "But if you don't, that's understandable."
"That would be nice," Bree said, looking at Arlin with a smile. "If you don't mind." Bree became shy again all of a sudden.
Bree couldn't help but grin back at her. She unlocked the car and got into the front seat, reaching over and unlocking Arlington's seat too. "Do you know the park I'm talking about?" Bree asked as she started the car.
Arlin hopped up into the seat as soon as Bree unlocked the door, pulling off her backpack and pushing it down into the seat in front of her. She shook her head in response to Bree's question as she shut the door. "Not really. I wasn't one for parks."
"That's fine," Bree laughed, pulling out of the parking lot. "It's kind of rinky-dink anyways. As a kid, though, I loved it." She started driving towards her own house, near where the park was.
Arlin nodded, leaning back in her seat. "Kids will like just about anything, I think." she said. "It's something about them. And they're not afraid to say it, either."
"Yeah, ain't that the truth," Bree said, memories flashing back to when she was little. She remembered all the temporary friends she'd made way back when. Little kids that constantly came and went out of her life...
Arlin nodded, not quite paying attention. "I miss being a kid sometimes." she said, "It was so much easier then."
"Seriously though," Bree said, nodding. "No worries. The only thing you had to worry about was what you were going to eat for lunch. And even today that's still a struggle." She laughed.
Arlington laughed, nodding enthusiastically. "Yes! I wish that was all I had to worry about, not homework and college and...liking people." She shook her head. "Growing up sucks."
Bree felt her heart skip a beat at "liking people". She mentally waved that off. "Yeah, those things kind of suck," she laughed back. "Especially college. I still have no clue what I'm going to do there..." Bree instinctively but her lip as her thoughts drifted.
Arlin nodded. "Me either! I don't even know what I want to do with my life, much less what college I want to go to!" She laughed a little, trying to think of something else to say before deciding to wait for Bree's response.
Bree smiled broadly. "I'm sure there are schools that will accept you," she said. "You're amazing!" she laughed a little.
Arlington shook her head. "I'm not that great." she said. "And I still have to decide what I want to study - because how can I pick a good school if I don't know what I want to do? It's just so complicated."
Bree glanced over at her for a second before turning back to the road. They were nearing the park. "Well, from what I see, you're pretty damn great," she said. "I think you could go anywhere if you really tried."
Arlin shrugged. "I don't know," she admitted, "But I mean, I tend to waste time, y'know? I don't think about this stuff, and I feel like I should."
Bree nodded. She definitely understood what that was like. "I get that," she said. "I've been doing the same thing. I guess I just don't wanna grow up, if that doesn't sound weird."
"It doesn't sound weird at all! It sounds like me." Arlington said, "Growing up sucks and I don't want it. At all." She said, and leaned her head on the headrest.
Bree gave a half-smile. "Age is inevitable. Imagination is forever. I've decided that the only way I'm going to get older is physically." She laughed, pulling up next to the sidewalk for the park.
Arlington couldn't help but laugh. "I love that!" she said. "That's perfect. New philosophy." She leaned over to look out the window at the park when Bree pulled up. "This is it?" she asked.
"Yup," Bree said while nodding, turning off the car and getting out. Her eyes grazed the park she remembered from her childhood. "I haven't been here in forever..." she reminisced fondly.
Arlin climbed out after Bree, coming around the car to stand at her side. "Really? How long has it been?" she asked, hoping she wasn't being too nosy.
Bree shook herself out of the small trance she'd been in. "I haven't been here since I was... I think eleven. My parents made me stop coming because I would skip school and come here sometimes." Bree shrugged like it was no big deal.
Arlin was silent for a moment, not knowing what to say. "That bad, huh?" she said quietly, shoving her hands into the pockets of her jeans. She really didn't know what to say in this situation - something comforting, she supposed.
Bree took a breath, then nodded. "Yeah. Even in elementary school, I was a little... weird. Unpopular, if you will." She laughed without humor. She shrugged that off, too. "Hey, I'm here now." She said, smiling and looking over at Arlington.
Arlin nodded, throwing an arm around Bree's shoulders. "Very true. And you know, it stinks. That you didn't have a lot of friends. Because I think you're awesome."
Bree couldn't resist a smile. "Thanks, Arlin," she said. "You've been really nice to me, so... Thanks." Bree turned into Arlin's arm and hugged her, unable to express her thankfulness with her words alone.
Bree pulled away, smiling. "True," she said. She turned to face the park, giddy like a child. "Come on!" she yelled as she made a run for the swings. "Bet I can go higher than you!" she teased.
Arlington laughed as she ran after Bree, practically throwing herself into a swing once she'd reached them. "These things are so rusty!" she exclaimed, but began to swing anyway, determined to beat Bree's challenge.
Bree pumped her legs, looking at Arlington and laughing. "I can still beat you on them though!" She exclaimed through her smile. As she swung backwards, she couldn't help but stare at the fluffy clouds in the sky. For the first time in a long time, she felt really happy.
"No you can't!" Arlington laughed, her words having to be shouted due to the speed at which she was swinging. This was amazing. She hadn't done something like this since she was eleven years old, and it was amazing.
After a few more swings, Bree felt like she was flying. She couldn't keep in a laugh that crawled up her throat and burst out of her mouth. She looked over at Arlington. "I'm beating you!" She yelled, smiling widely.
((Our pictures are the same color now it's kind of funny))Sadly, for Arlin, Bree was right. She was swinging higher than Arlington, who only pumped her legs faster in an effort to get higher. She normally wasn't super competitive, but she could be if challenged - as Bree had done.
((That´s awesome xD))After some more swings, Bree got a little lightheaded. She stopped swinging, letting herself slow down. ¨Sorry,¨ she said in her normal voice. ¨I´m tired.¨ she said, laughing a bit.
((Yes yes it is))Arlington was just about catching up to Bree when the other began to slow down. She did as well, simply enjoying the feeling. "It's okay!" she said. "You still won."
"True," Bree teased, hair falling into her face. She pushed it away hastily, laughing. "Thanks for competing with me anyways." Bree's eyes gleamed with happiness.
Arlin laughed, finally able to slow down enough so that she didn't have to shout to be heard anymore. "It was my pleasure!" she said, laughing.
Bree sat there for a second, trying to get rid of the headache that was slowly dawning. "So what did you like to do as a kid?" she asked, tilting her head a little like a puppy.
