Chapter Three - Please use series spoiler tags

Eugenio | 108 comments Just finished chapter 3, and yowza!! Tons of info, ICE's writing is really improved and that Li Heng "Old Guard/Native" vs "New Guard/Loyalist" book-ends to the chapter. Just fantastic. Will expand on the chapter and its many points once I have some free time.

Carl | 36 comments I want to hear more from that remote island of Jaghut (descendants?) that highered some crimson guard. That was really interesting.

I'm enjoying the number of "but who are they really" characters in this novel. Lots of secrets to uncover here.

Still a bit confused / daunted by the sheer amount of storylines being thrown at me so far.

Eugenio | 108 comments The Primogenatrix! Jhagut descendants? I didn't catch that. I believed they might be one of the many other near-extinct races that hated the Jhagut because when she heard the word spoken (and here spelled Jaghut... Maybe I have been spelling it incorrectly all along).

That whole scene also revealed the extension of the power of the Avowed. They do not need sustenance and retain a vast portion of their strength after the many years entombed.

The story of Storo dropping a tower on an Avowed, piercing her with many lances and then stabbing and decapitating her to finally finish her off.... They are not a force to fight against!!

Carl | 36 comments I don't think i'm going to get my wish and hear any more about this island. I think the scene was more about the imprisoned CG and how, like you said seem to survive despite being imprisoned underground.

My reasoning for thinking they were Jaghut related were that she recognizes that word only, and the fact that CG said it (why did she say it otherwise). The 'primo' curses the elder gods of ice. Maybe this is a community that was set up on this remote island by a Jaghut a long time ago?

I agree Carl, I also assumed the Primo was cursing the Jaghut. I am not sure exactly what that scene was building up to, I am sure we will see more.

So who is in the Imperial Warren killing everyone traveling there?
'I am sorry,' Kital heard him say through the roaring on his ears.
The face so close- those eyes! - Kital guessed the name and mouthed it. The man nodded.

I can't think who that can be. I thought perhaps the guy who was killed in NoK that had done all the original research on warrens. But the 'eyes' are a clue I can't yet work out.

When the old woman who Silk stopped to talk to meet Hurl she says
'Greetings Builder. I am pleased to meet you' Builder? She must mean engineer.> thinks Hurl.

We know there is a builder in the deck for House Life and Light, so my guess given that she is with Silk, who we now know has access to Murals Liosen, I think this means she is the builder for the House Light.

Eugenio | 108 comments I'm just wondering what the title "Builder" signifies? Will she rebuild the Liosan cult following? Will she help to build a connection between Liosan and the mortal realm?

Also the more I think of the Primo group, the more I feel like they cannot be a throw away story. All that power, and they surely would want to protect themselves from the Crimson Guard ever returning.

Kyle's group is Crimson Guard, correct? It gets a little confusing in the next chapter, talking about Malazans and joining them and some other mumbo jumbo. ICEs writing gets a little jumbled. Will need to read that section again.

James Tivendale (youandi) | 28 comments I loved the end of this chapter. I read about Silk in Dancer's Lament and it is cool in the throneroom at the finale. x

Eugenio | 108 comments Silk was in another book!?! I need to read it!

James Tivendale (youandi) | 28 comments Yeah Dancer's Lament which is like a prior book, it is an old empire novel set before Gardens of the Moon. All the ladies love our pal Silk x

Eugenio | 108 comments They do hint at women loving Silk. But is Silk even a human man?!? Don't answer that! Want it to stay a mystery

James Tivendale (youandi) | 28 comments I'm not sure, all I know for ROTCG is he is a squad mage who has something extra special about him
