if you are going for portraits and other general things.. id suggest a 50 mm prime.. they are relatively cheap too.. but you won't be able to shoot wide angle.. (like landscapes)..

Till now it has been only subjects (namely my husband and daughter) or wild life or some heritage architecture.. But would love to get into nature shots.. Birds, sky etc etc..

@Gehna: I got an avg. of above 9 out of 10 this time. Fir bhi I wasn't confident :P
@Sri for just starting out.. a 18-55 kit lens is fine.. you'll get one for 6-7k i think.. but you'll need a telephoto lens for birds and wildlife..

I am not sure about canon Sri.. i bought my nikon 55-200 for 13k.. i recommend 50 mm because it will give much better quality than the zoom lenses.. and when you feel confident you can get a good wide angle lens.. but go for the kit lens if you have to shoot landscape now only.. :)
