@manu seems chennai slowly getting back to normal.. water has started receding in many places@sri including ashok nagar....

Yes Ini!!! Just saw twitter and found out that Ashok Nagar is all dry!!!! :O :O It feels as if there has been no rains in that area!! :O :O YAYYYY!!! Now waiting for electricity and mobile connectivity to be restored in that area!! Vodafone is really bad!!!!!!!!

Vodafone is better than airtel sri..... Electricity is gettinh restored on some places it seems...

Hopefully with waters receding and power getting restored, they should get their networks on and communication will resume! :)

Hi Ini! No they didn't but I managed to get through to an uncle who lives there and who was actually staying at our place because his house was flooded. His line was restored, so I spoke to him and he said that they are safe. Hopefully, I will get to speak with my parents soon..... I HATE this telecommunication system of ours, which is so idiotically backward!!!At least...some good news..so am relieved! :D

Nature is really powerful.. Last year it was Visakhapatnam which suffered and now it's Chennai.. I don't know about Chennai but lakhs of trees collapsed in Visakhapatnam..
True Harry! The more we disrespect nature, the more it comes back to bite us... While development and growth of a city is unavoidable, we should take care to ensure that this growth and development can handle such situations. Proper drainage systems, where the drain holes are actually at ground level and not at some height; linking these drainage systems to ensure that the water flows back into the sea; ensuring proper drinking water availability as well as shelter systems; ground floor levels being built at a certain height above the ground level (which incidentally is how stilt houses in Andamans and Nicobar are built) to avoid entry of flood waters are some things that we should take care of when building in areas that were previously lakes/water bodies. I have seen this happen in Gujarat, especially Ahmedabad and then in Bombay and now Madras - we haven't learnt our lessons at all..and I doubt the rehabilitation plan will ever incorporate these learnings. :(

That's good. Just spoke to my parents. Finally landline has been restored! They are okay and it's dry there and not raining right now. I think it was predicted that it will rain in pockets throughout the weekend. :(
