Within the book you are reading right now:

How has the past shaped your main character's life?

We see that Malala's past has inspired her to continue to fight for education for young women around the world. Her father was a major influence on her and has been a wonderful role model.

I am reading The Dream by Emile Zola, where the main character, Angelique is heavily influenced by her religious environment and a book Golden Legends about saints and martyrs. Her greatest dream is to become one of those, become just like those women in the stories which makes her act coldly towards a person she loves, Felicien. She is suffering as a result, but because it makes her closer to her heroins, she enjoys this self-imposed suffering.
