Can you describe your feeling when you read the part where the MOST HATED character in the series died in his wedding in this book?

I was actually driving back to Tucson from California with my wife and kids in the car. I was listening to the Audible and I literally think I yelled "Yes!" at the top of my lungs. I know I woke my daughter up and freaked the hell out of my wife. What a great moment in literature.Christopher Patterson

I was a little disappointed, don't get me wrong I was glad he was dead he was horrible. But I enjoyed the character. Sometimes the bad guys are great fun...
Satisfaction. The insufferable little weasel deserved worse. Hard for me to imagine a literary character who's death was more satisfying (maybe Count Mondego).
Bittersweet. I wannted him to die almost as badly as I want Arya's revenge, but his dead was not flamboyant enough...maybe that's the whole point. He was just a kid in the end.Flowers can be poisonous :)
I didn't hate Joffrey Lannister. I don't proper hate any one of them really. I hope Sansa dies, because I can't stand her character. And Daenerys.Cheerfully yours,

Please consider editing the name of this thread. I have already read the book, but if I hadn't read it and had it on my "to-read" list, I'd still see this discussion and be pretty disappointed at the spoiler, as would anyone who is in that situation. Thanks.
His death, now part of the tv memories, too, was one of those things you hoped would happen. I agree with the previous poster about it not being flamboyant enough, but do realize how much the act was needed to bring readers to new heights in the plot.
It was a payoff moment that fans had been waiting for. Luckily there are other characters we love to hate. Congratulationd to Jack Gleeson for playing the little toad so well on TV.

I felt oddly numbed to the death of every person who dies on this series. I just could not believe that it happened.
@Felix I'm wondering if it is loveless marriages. Because Robb's marriage to whatsherface was described as happy and Dany's to Kahl Drogo ...had a few killings but Dany got a lot of presents, including dragon eggs and a prized horse to show that he'd respect her. Robb's uncle was marrying a Frey against his will, never mind that it ended up being a pretty one, and you know Joffrey and Margery wouldn't have had wedded bliss. Just an out-there guess. And YES I wanted Joffrey's death to be more painful. I'd prayed that Arya would torture him, or that he'd been torn limb from limb by an angry mob.
Most hated by who? This question is leading and largely irrelevant.
Better a quick painful death (as in the book and the series) than a long dragged out one.A death that takes a long time coming makes the reader (and watcher) start to feel empathy for the tortured soul. I would not have liked to have started feeling sorry for Jeoffrey.
Case in point, Theon Greyjoy... his long torture has made "me" start feeling somewhat sorry for him... after all, he does seem to be somewhat repentant... then it all comes back to me what he did to deserve his fate. Although I do wish his torturer a similar fate.

Oh, that is a good point. I'd never imagined pitying Theon...until I did. Well, seeing Joff eaten by a dragon would have been kinda cool too. :) But that's what Dany gets for being a slacker. :)
I kind of feel bad when Geoffrey died. I just felt that the series wouldn't be quite as interesting without his shenanigans.
IMO, he was the only evil guy in the series. And I mean evil for the sake of being evil. So I was pretty happy when he died.
I think it's a stretch to call Robb the "MOST HATED character in the series". Sure, he's no one's favorite, but he's not bad. And when he died, I cursed Martin for sticking us with such foolish protagonists.

I was so ecstatic when i read that bit, i actually got up and started doing my happy dance!
The scene, told from Tyrion's point of view, toyed with my emotions, dragging me from joy and relief to pity and a sad emptiness after he was dead, when he looks into Joffrey's eyes in the end and thinks that, after all, he was just a scared child. He was the terrible product of bad parenting.If I have to choose someone who's actually cruel for the sake of it, it would be Ramsay Snow, now Bolton.
I danced I was so happy! Frack that kid, now I want Ramsay to die!
I knew it was coming. So it wasn't a shock. But I was glad he died.

Do you have a problem with good characters or something? If you like only the Lannisters you're missing the lesson of the book.
Sansa is a flat, boring character. Daenerys, too. Nothing to do with "good" characters. No one is really good in the series, that's the point.Igor
@Igor, I gotta disagree, Sansa is actually developing into a pretty interesting character. I started off by just abhorring her, but I think in the last book she seemed pretty interesting. Yes, she's not moving the plot, but that's not what GRRM does with female characters (even Brienne if you think about it) but she's watching and learning from Peter so I have a pretty good feeling about her for the next book, which should be out in what? 10 12 years?
SATISFACTION! It was quite soon after the Red Wedding and the feeling of loss for Catelyn and Robb was still really fresh so this felt like retribution. It was pretty graphic though and made you realise he's only a child so its a pretty horrible end for a 13? year old.

GRRM is training with Bloodraven to remain inside the roots of a weirwood writing novels for hundreds and hundreds of years. He's eating fandom-crackpot-theories paste every day to acquire the powers of the ultimate narrative. Winter is coming... and will arrive before The Winds of Winter.
To be honest I was totally and utterly surprised, I did not see that coming. But at the same time I thought that having Joffrey's death explained through Tyrion was fairly anti-climactic since Tyrion wanted him dead anyway, I think it would have been better written through Sansa's perspective, or Margeary's.
