I wasn't sure if you saw sandy's response. Your choice wouldn't work even though it is on the list because it is a graphic novel.

message 54: by Delmy (new)

Delmy  (needfulreads) I am doing-->

Option 2:
Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay (#1 on list)

Option 4:
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

message 55: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments for option 1 - does Lucky Streak work? from the second paragraph in the description, it sounds like she is running a con on him

message 56: by ♞ Pat (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 786 comments Option 2 (#311 on 5-18-14) Crazy in Alabama by Mark Childress Crazy in Alabama

Option 5 (#1 on 5-18-14) Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro Never Let Me Go

Pat- excellent choices!!

message 58: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 466 comments For option 4 would you accept The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History or A Plague upon Humanity: The Hidden History of Japan's Biological Warfare Program? I can't tell if Influenza follows any particular people or is more about the disease itself (though I would guess that it might qualify in that the main "characters" are all dying), Plague seems more about a specific group of scientists. If neither fit, I'm sure I can find something else. Thanks!

message 59: by Delmy (new)

Delmy (needfulreads) Jennifer W- I am going to say yes to either option, they're non-fiction right? If so yes.

message 60: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 466 comments Yes, they're both non-fiction.

Thanks!

Alexis (kheleyr) | 120 comments Would Frankenstein work for option 4 (scientist)?

message 62: by Delmy (new)

Delmy (needfulreads) Alexis- that works! Enjoy!
:)

message 63: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2170 comments Will Poison Study work for option 4? The main character has been intentionally poisoned and must take a dose of antidote daily or she will die.

message 64: by Delmy (new)

Delmy (needfulreads) Amy- no, it has to be illness related, think "the Fault in Our Stars"

message 65: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2170 comments Delmy =^.^= wrote: "Amy- no, it has to be illness related, think "the Fault in Our Stars""

How about Shatter - the main character, Psychologist Joseph O'Laughlin, suffers from Parkinson's disease. The book's description isn't too detailed, but I have read the first two books in the series so I know that he has PD.

Awesome, thanks very much. If it doesn't feel like he's a scientist as you described when I read it I'll change it.

message 70: by Isha (new)

Isha | 224 comments Will Hostage to Pleasure work for option 4?
One of the main character is a scientist who was in charge of the implant protocol in the book

message 71: by Delmy (new)

Delmy (needfulreads) Nikita- I am going to say no just from reading the GR description.

Isha | 224 comments Delmy =^.^= wrote: "Nikita- I am going to say no just from reading the GR description."

I don't think it says anything about her being a scientist in the description but it will be reread for me and I do remember her being someone who works in a lab and is the Council’s head scientist in the Protocol I Implant

well, sure, just make sure to state what she does specifically, her title and how it ties the task because like i said from reading the GR description i can't tell how the book would fit for this option.

message 74: by Lacy (new)

Lacy (lacy_stewart) | 161 comments Can I get this approved for Option 3?

The Fiery Cross - The main female character is Clare and she is a mother, stepmother, and grandmother. It is book 5 from the Outlander series.

Thanks!

message 76: by Hina (new)

Hina (hinaj) | 677 comments I am going to read:

Option 2: Helena - Claiming the Courtesan by Anna Campbell. From Rooting for the Bad Guy list #173

Option 3: Alison Hendrix - What Price Paradise by Katherine Allred.

I have a question for option 3, from the precis she is pregnant so soon to be mother. Would that work or does the character has to be a mother already...

Soon to be mother works, as long as she will eventually have the baby (ugh, that was morbid, sorry).

Turtlecollector Dennis | 42 comments I would like to make sure this book would work for option 3, main character is mother:

Wild Swans Three Daughters of China by Jung Chang

message 80: by SthTx Dawn (new)

SthTx Dawn (dawn99) | 114 comments Will Zoo work for option 4? Main character, Jackson Oz is a biologist (although he left college without graduating) who researches violent animal behavior towards humans.

message 81: by Delmy (new)

Delmy (needfulreads) If he left before graduating then technically he is not a biologist, so no.

message 82: by SthTx Dawn (new)

SthTx Dawn (dawn99) | 114 comments i was afraid of that. dang those college drop outs! lol..will find another spot for it..Thanks

Would On the Island work for option 4- life-threatening illness?

T.J. Callahan has no desire to leave town, not that anyone asked him. He's almost seventeen and if having cancer wasn't bad enough, now he has to spend his first summer in remission with his family ... the possibility that T.J.'s cancer could return.

message 84: by Delmy (new)

Delmy (needfulreads) That works!

Dirty Little Secrets
and
For option 3 - the character is pregnant for most of the book, can we consider her a mom?
Return to Tradd Street

Just want to make absolutely sure - I'm getting low on alternative tasks to put things under so better to know ahead of time! Thanks!

it doesn't really explain what kind of scientist she is from the description, can you explain what kind of scientist she is?

message 91: by SthTx Dawn (new)

SthTx Dawn (dawn99) | 114 comments in the book she mainly did research and worked at Donovan Labs. Her father, also a scientist, brought her in to work on the project. During the book she works at Donovan labs and also has a science lab at home. Her main job as a consultant is to figure out which drugs her father used to enhance psychic ability and if it can be reversed.

The booklist review on the Amazon page describes it a little. Also, her character is introduced in first pages, around paragraph 25-27..

first chapter
