At least you're a one-man woman - you only swoon over one at a time!

Jackie | 1734 comments ah "The Mountain" - I think I voted for this but I like all three of the options that I've read and would be happy with any of them. the GR I don't have but it would be interesting to read something for the first time instead of the usual re-read.

so I can't lose.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & voting has closed & we have our winner!

The Convenient Marriage is our July read. :)

Great, I look forward to a second read to get reacquainted, see if it holds up for me!

Susan in Perthshire (susanageofaquarius) | 1448 comments I just read this again earlier this year - after an absence of about 30 years! - before it was picked for July. I think I'll manage to read it again though!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ oops sorry - I've been asleep at the wheel!

It's (past) time to think about our August read.

I'm going to put Beauvallet & The Masqueraders again. Would anyone like The Great Roxhythe added to the poll? I could also add Charity Girl if someone else is prepared to lead the discussion if anyone is suffering from Heyer Regency withdrawal symptoms.

Thoughts?

I am in favor of limiting the choice to 'Beauvallet' and 'The Masqueraders'. My feeling is that once was enough, for me, of 'Roxhythe' and 'Charity Girl'.

message 412: by Jacquie (new)

Jacquie Scuitto | 261 comments I haven't read The Masqueraders for some time and would prefer to reread that than any of the others mentioned. TM is a froth of fun, very suitable for summer reading. Charity Girl as I remember was rather weak for a GH novel. I didn't care much for Beauvallet -- my copy looks almost unread, a sign that it wasn't read and reread like my favorites.

message 413: by Louise Sparrow (new)

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments My vote will be for Masqueraders as well.

I like Charity Girl though. I don't have Roxhythe and I've only read Beauvallet once, which was enough... although I suppose I should give it another chance at some point.

I don't participate with mysteries, and don't care for Beauvallet. Roxhythe is worth a read every decade or so.

message 415: by Critterbee❇ (new)

Critterbee❇ (critterbee) | 2786 comments I would also vote for Masqueraders, although I liked Beauvallet and would read that if it were chosen. I have never read Roxhythe, so I guess I wouldn't mind that one, either. :)

Louise Sparrow (louisex) | 460 comments Howard wrote: "I don't participate with mysteries, and don't care for Beauvallet. Roxhythe is worth a read every decade or so."

None of them come under mysteries? I haven't read them either, although I should probably give them another chance at some point too!

message 417: by Howard (new)

Howard Brazee | 1 comments Neither are mysteries. Beauvallet is a historical romance from the Elizabethan era, and the Masqueraders is also of an earlier era (but not that early)

message 418: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) My vote is for The Masqueraders.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hmmm, my feeling is we could go by consensus & read The Masqueraders. Just in case anyone thinks I'm pushing my own barrow, my vote would be for Beauvallet. :)

I'll give it another 24 hours & unless someone strongly wants to vote for one of my other suggestions (and in Charity Girl's case is prepared to lead the discussion) I say we go with The Masqueraders. :)

Hooray for 'The Masqueraders'! One of my top 5. I love this book!

Hilary (A Wytch's Book Review) (knyttwytch) Another vote for The Masqueraders here as well!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Hi sorry I didn't get back to this topic yesterday!

The Masqueraders is our August read. :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ & time to think about our September read - which is a mystery.

We have already read these titles as a group

2014 Footsteps in the Dark
Death in the Stocks

2016 A Blunt Instrument
No Wind of Blame

2017 Penhallow

So please don't nominate again. I don't own Detection Unlimited or the Unfinished Clue so may need a volunteer to lead if either of those are successful.

I'll nominate Duplicate Death

message 426: by Susan in NC (new)

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4147 comments I have that one - Duplicate Death - sounds good! But I picked up several of her mysteries at our local used bookstore, so I'm flexible!

message 427: by Margaret (new)

Margaret | 613 comments Just a note that Duplicate Death shares some characters with They Found Him Dead, and is the later of the two books.

message 428: by Barb in Maryland (new)

Barb in Maryland | 817 comments Margaret--thanks for that info--good to know.
I have read 'They found Him Dead' (1937) though I can't remember much about it. I notice that it features Superintendent Hannysyde, while 'Duplicate Death' (1951) features Inspector Hemingway. Hmmm, wonder why she changed policemen?

I will nominate 'They Found Him Dead'.

message 429: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1640 comments I'll nominate Behold! Here's Poison Behold, Here's Poison (Inspector Hannasyde, #2) by Georgette Heyer

They should all be available as SourceBooks reprints

message 430: by Teresa (new)

Teresa | 2190 comments Guys I'm going to opt out for a month or two. Life is kinda overwhelming me at the moment and I don't have a lot of reading time. I do two challenges every month and just lately I've found that it's all I get to read and I have a lot of books I want to get too. I'll take part again soon and will keep checking the chat as I'd miss it too much. Also didn't get this notification again. Came across it by chance.

Sorry to hear that Teresa. I know it can get overwhelming.

Keep in touch! :)

message 432: by Amy (new)

Amy (aggieamy) | 422 comments Teresa - You will be missed.

I understand. I completely missed Penhallow between vacation and my sister's death and now I'm really behind on Convenient Marriage. I still enjoy eavesdropping on the conversations here even if I'm not keeping up with the books. :)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Ok so far we have

Duplicate Death
They Found Him Dead
Behold Here's Poison.

I'll give it another 24 hours for a nomination, then we can start deciding. :)

message 440: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments Should we nominate a new one, then, Carol, or one of those?

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Karlyne wrote: "Should we nominate a new one, then, Carol, or one of those?"

If you want to nominate another mystery, please do! Just as long as it isn't one we have read already as a group (see message #425) :)

message 442: by Karlyne (new)

Karlyne Landrum | 3895 comments Actually, I think Behold, Here's Poison sounds good!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I'll close nominations a fraction early as we have both a big storm coming & need to get ready for a big family part this weekend (which Marty's brother is holding outdoors!!!)

I'm going to do consensus this time.

The choices are Behold Here's Poison
Duplicate Death
They Found Him Dead

I'll count Karlyne's comment as one vote for Behold Here's Poison.
I'm voting for Duplicate Death.

Let the voting begin!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ I'll close voting Tuesday my time (will be Monday for most of you)

message 445: by QNPoohBear (new)

QNPoohBear | 1640 comments I'm leaning towards Duplicate Death because it sounds a little different from her typical awful quarreling family.
