R9: Team #10 ~ Divas of Organized Destruction

I'm still working on my Shifter book, I expect to finish it tomorrow.

My hubby who is in no way a reader is powering through GoT, he's well into A Feast for Crows. Sadly, he's grabbed my fav reading spot, so I have to make the most of it when he isn't here (don't want to discourage him). LOL.

Lol, no can't discourage, especially if he's usually a non-reader. My ex used to only read in the bath but he powered through the whole GoT series too...he used to take a lot of bubble baths. Lol

I'm concerned about your book choice because 3/4 of the cover is not yellow. Might be a good idea to check before you read too much.
"Shelf #3 ~ 1/6/14: 'Yellow/Orange Cover Colour'
The majority of the cover must be yellow or orange.
Remember, any cover of the book you read qualifies. "

Ha, thanks, Judithe! It turned out that I didn't have any time to read yesterday, what with working a double shift then going to a house party after work. To say I'm exhausted is an understatement.
Apparently I have a pitiful amount of Yellow/Orange cover books on my TBR shelves. Slim pickings indeed. I'm waiting for

Review:
It's one of my favorite series and I'm very sad that it had to end after only 4 books. In many respect it is difficult to keep up the quality of a story and stretch it over many books. I think it was the right time to close but I still wanted more....maybe a spin-off pretty please.
Banishing the dark picks up right after the events of Binding the Shadows where Cady undergo a memory spell to protect herself from her mother. This puts a real strain on her relationship with Lon who cannot fill in the blanks for her.
They embark on a quest to uncover Cady's origins and the specifics of the Moonchild ritual. In their search, they find how far Enola has gone to direct Cady's life and the choices she made. The mother, as an evil character, was more than one dimensional and became one of the best villain in my mind.
Another aspect I liked about this story was Jupe. Normally teenage characters gets on my nerve but this one had the right amount of snark, innocence and recklessness to pull it off. This time Jupe took a more proactive approach in the story after Priya challenged him to protect Cady. Jupe made some investigation of his own and eventually found key information for Cady's quest.
The epilogue really helped in tying everything up but I'm still hopeful for something more.

Great review, Valerie. I'm sorry to hear one of your favorite series has ended. It IS good when an author is aware of the time to end his/her series and willing to do so, instead of beating a dead horse until you end up hating everything about it. Lord knows LKH should've ended that hot ass mess Anita Blake series 10 books ago. But it's still sad. =(

I think that Anita Blake was one of the first series I started reading when I tried books in English. They were easy to understand without resorting to the dictionary too much. I loved her villains because they were seldom seen creatures and she managed to create a world-building that really interested me and got me reading into the UF/PNR genre.
It is sad to say that she really stretched it too thin and should have ended the series many, many books ago. Unfortunately for me, I have a hard time letting go so while I'll never again buy her books full of editing errors and non existent plot....if my library happens to purchase it, I might read it just in the hope that it gets better even if I know it won't.
Same for any Sookie Stackhouse books, the last 4 were library loans.
How pathetic is that?

Not pathetic at all! I don't have that issue (I quit both the LKH and Southern Vampire Mysteries series years ago and have absolutely no problem with quiting a series if I'm not feeling it) but I'm that when it comes to most things: I don't have time for that nonsense. I have an....interesting...sense of humor but I'm also extremely straightforward. I'm that chick who will tell you to put on another shirt because the one you have on makes you look like a basketball. People like me make alot of enemies, so it's a good thing you're the way you are. ^_^

One good thing that the SOS group helped me with is the member's list section. I took the time to list all the series I ever started (and I have way too many) to try to prioritize them in reading order. I'm not proud of some of them but I think my quality reading has improved significantly since I started the list. Yes, you can look it up and laugh at my list. I can take the teasing.
The problem is that I don't read as fast as the books are being published so I'm always behind but at least I think twice before starting another series. I like the shiny covers too much so my TBR pile is in the 800

Despite how many books I've read (according to GR it's 1,808 but I know it's more like 2,000 when I think about the books in boxes I haven't felt like recording yet) I'm not a fast reader either. A lot of people-including my family and friends-think I am but its more that I dedicate a lot time to reading. I read when I wake up. I read before I go to bed. I read in between commercials. I read as I'm eating. Hell, I read on the toilet. If I didn't read so much, I'd probably have more books to read and be less jaded when it comes to certain genres (500 books read where the duke marries the debutante or the ugly-duckling YA heroine meets this "mysterious boy with dreamy eyes" will do that to a person).

I thought I was the only person who did that!!! I can be in there for hours....just last week hubby thought I had gone for a nap....
Gotta say its pretty quiet in there.
But I hear ya LL....my nose is always stuck in a book and I usually have 4 books on the go in different stages of completion and from different genres....

I am awe of what you accomplished on your member's list. That is freaking impressive. Awesome list and some I need to check into.
Whats your fave series and the one you detested the most?

lol....I think my first romance novel was

Second, I'm with ya'll and nodded my head mumbling "Yep!" while reading all of your posts. I love lists, am sometimes good/terrible at completing them, envious of Val's booky lists, not-necessarily-hoarder-but-severely-organized piles of books and general stuffs, and supremely thankful for eBooks (for many reasons).
Good review of Banished, Val. I miss that series, but I was happy with the finale. Sucked though b/c I didn't realize it was the finale until I was reading it. :( Hate when that happens.

I love this series! I didn't know this was the last book. Now I am sad before I even start it.

From that, it was just a question of classifying a few at a time. Within 2 weeks I had all my series in order. It's not that time consuming and you get to sit and ponder on which series you really want to continue.
I'm also 'reading' a few books at the same time. Always one fantasy audiobook (with a to die for male voice), a UF or PNR in ebook format and maybe an erotica in between. I read all the time, even lose sleep when a book is that good.
I think the first book I really chose to read by myself was Interview With The Vampire and my first 'romance' novel was The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty.
I read way too many PNR and can't really get interested into a romance novel without paranormal element. I don't know why.

I really would like to answer that but I don't know how. I mean I've only read about 1700 books in my life so who am I to say that this series is the best ever. It depends really on the genre and the mood you are in when you read. Maybe a top 3 would be acceptable.
PNR: Black Dagger Brotherhood series (vamps), Dark-Hunter series(hunters), Shifters Unbound series(shifter).
UF: The Dresden Files series(wizard),Jane Yellowrock series(shifter),The Hollows series(witch), Kate Daniels series(magic)
Fantasy: Codex Alera series(hero journey), Night Angel series(assassin),Demon Cycle series(demons),
m/m: Infected series(shifter).

Val, love your lists, very impressive :)
I've been through different phases, only read historical, only read Harlequins, only read scifi, only read mystery & spy novels, and always smutty along the way, now I mix them up but my main focus is pnr and uf. This seems to bring a lot of the other genres together, so I don't feel like I'm neglecting anything.
Though 1 thing I don't do is read on the toilet, just eeww.......

I had never heard of PNR or UF until I stumbled upon GR....my first group was SOS and my first friends on here were Steph and Sandra....they got me reading stuff I never dreamt existed and now Im hooked....my first book I read was

FictFact addresses

I'm a list whore as well so I'll be checking fictfact as well, although it's so hard for me to get on the computer...my 15 thinks he owns it...he doesn't. I'm a bit of a hoarder too...books, nail polish (I have over 500 bottles), clothes (I have bins of skinny clothes because I *may* fit them again, never mind that they'll be completely out if style). I usually have just two books on the go, whichever UF or PNR *real* book and an ebook (I'm on a big historical romance kick right now) on my phone that I usually only read in bed before I go to sleep.
@LL, I'm envious of your blatantly honest attitude, I don't know how many times I've gotten myself into a position I regret because I wouldn't just speak up.

"
Awwww, thanks. My BFF (who I've been friends with since we were 14) is blatantly honest as well. We get mistaken for
But lets get back on topic. When you think about peoples feelings before you speak, you are nice and people like you. When you don't and are "blatantly honest" people will label you a bitch and then you'll spend the rest of your life punching people in the throat. Both have pros and cons. The cons of being me is my knuckles are always swollen from putting the smackdown on heifers. The cons of being you is people taking advantage of your niceness.
Also I fictfact too. I fictfact all night long. One of these days I'm gonna win that contest.

I love FictFact! Been trying to stay current with my updates, but usually I end up posting reads a month at a time. LL, I'm gonna win before you!! I enter both every month, but damn it! No luck yet.
Rosina, I'm assuming she's referring to their "win a Kindle" contest they have each month. You can enter on their "reg" site and their mobile site.
I'm a mood reader, much more so since I weened myself off of the loads of monthly challenges I was doing. I'm usually reading a PNR or UF book but I break it all up with some smexy smexin' every now and then. And, as my group would suggest, I tend to stick to series reads. But, a few stand alones make it onto my list now and again.

Unlike most fated-to-be-mated stories, Forbidden Bond finds these two doing their best to distance themselves from each other and the unexpected bond that forms while they are teens.
Shortly before Eion is due to graduate from high school, an accident leads him to get closer to his best friend's little sister, Olivia. Closer than he'd ever allowed himself in the past despite his attraction to her. For one, she's his best friend's little sister. Second, she's human and he's a wolf shifter set to assume his role as alpha. Last and most importantly, human-shifter relationships are forbidden. So, he resists his and his wolf's urges and returns to his pack in hopes that the bond will diminish over time and distance.
Flash forward twelve years, he's returned to Little Crow Pass, Wyoming to sell his farm neighboring Olivia and BF, Kris' farm. His plan is to quickly take care of business and head back to the pack. Plans change when he learns his friends' farm is in financial trouble and his bond with Olivia is stronger than ever.
There were many things about Forbidden Bond that were both positives and negatives for me. (view spoiler)
Despite these issues, I really enjoyed the author's writing style, the depth of the story and the characters/world she created. Too bad it's not a series; I think there's a lot left to tell in this story.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

5 stars
Review: I really enjoyed this book. I loved the idea of immortals with different houses from ancient times and of course the good vs evil aspect. I rated it 5 stars because it is really quite well done for targeted reading audience of tweens/teens. I thought of myself as a teen reading this. The history element was not too dry and boring. Quite well done. I was even casting for a movie as I read. For the character River I was thinking Angela Bassett and for Nasty I was thinking of the girl who plays Chloe on the show 24.
Already have reserved the 2nd in the series from the library.

Val, I'll be away from wifi again this weekend, so I'll check for the new shelf and post my choice either Sun or Mon.

We now have an updated BINGO card with a stamp on 'free space'.

That's ok.
I'll be super busy this weekend and won't have time to finish reading my Orange cover book before Monday for sure but I should be able to post a review on Monday.

Books mentioned in this topic
Magic Breaks (other topics)Dire Straits (other topics)
The Nightmarys (other topics)
Alien Proliferation (other topics)
London Bound (other topics)
LOL, I think I'll be removing that from my tbr.
RE GoT, I'm reading it too (same BR as Rosina) but I'm actually really liking it. I was scared to read them for the longest time because of painful Epic Fantasy can be, but I find it's easier to read than a lot of others...definitely easier than LotR. I still maintain that having watched the show gives you a leg up in following everything.
