I have decided my free space book will be Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris from the Best of Urban Fantasy list.

Once I start buying books again I think I'll pick up the first couple.
here are my 3 books I am considering for demons...Mark of the Demon
Working for the Devil
Red-Headed Stepchild
which one would you recommend?

Mmmm, depends what you are looking for really. All 3 are great stories.
The first, I' m partial to it. Ritualistic murder investigation.
The second, UF with awesome hand to hand battle description...like reading kong fu fighting with dark and evil events happening to the heroine.
The third reads like YA with annoying relief characters. I read the series, great one but the comical characters were getting on my last nerve.
I can't pick.

I've read all 3 & honestly, I wouldn't rec any of them. MofD had a idiot heroine, WftD had a delicious hero but the book was confusing as hells & the heroine was a straight up bitch & RHS? I DNF'd it. Enough said. But good luck!
Your demon book sounds interesting, LL. Looking forward to your review of it. For DEMONS, I'll be reading
, I read the first book recently and I really like the world Castle's created. I'm in the middle of another book, so get going on DD after that one. I haven't picked a FS book yet, but I will let ya know as soon as I do. Love our name, teammies! Happy reading to all. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

comes out tomorrow WOOHOO! I'll be reading that one for my Free Space book. I found it on the SOS bookshelves.

Yeah, I'm not super excited about starting SG. But I own it-IIRC, it was an Kindle freebie back in April-so I'm reading it more for the convenience than anything else.

I don't know how to review this book without spoilers. It was the most satisfying ending to a series ever with the most heart wrenching love triangle ever. I laughed, I cried. I read just about the entire epilogue with tears streaming down my face and my reading glasses all fogged up. Even after I was done I felt the need for a little sob. I have never had so many feels about a book.
Sounds like a good one, Julianne. I stopped reading her series when I thought City of Glass was the last book in her Mortal Instruments series. I have the others, in that series, but haven't continued on with it.I've just started my demon book, but I'm already about 1/4 of the way through it. Should be done tonight/tomorrow AM and post my review soon there after. I've got my FS book on my Kindle waiting and up next. :)
PS: I'll be out of wifi range Thur-Sat, but I'll check in Sat afternoon for the next shelf and post my book choice.
I honestly think she should have stopped with City of Glass...the next two City of ____ didn't have the same magic. Although I'll be getting the last one ASAP. I think I may actually like the Infernal Devices trilogy better.
I only read the first book of the Mortal Instruments series and was not really captivated by it. I guess I'm in the minority.
I read the first two and then threw the 3rd across the room....I read the first of the Infernal Devices but never continued....
Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ wrote: "I only read the first book of the Mortal Instruments series and was not really captivated by it. I guess I'm in the minority."I read it when I was first getting into being an avid reader and had only been reading YA. I'm not sure that I would feel the same love for it now if I read it for the first time. But as it is it holds a special place in my heart :)
Just a friendly reminmder:Rosina: still don't know which book you chose for the demons shelf.
LL: where did you pick your free space book from?
Thanks!
Sorry for not getting on your case sooner, I was down with a major bug or flu that kept me too tired even to read. I'm halfway about in my demons book, should have a review done in a day to two.
Julianne wrote: "Lol I think I might be the minority in this group."You like what you like, it's all there is to it. With all the twilight series made into movies...I had to try it. They were ok but I could not understand the big fuss about them.
The beauty of YA is that it can take trusted old themes and make them new again with a wider audience. I liked the Hunder Games series but it's basically a survival theme with a bit of 1984 for the Big Brother effect.
I'm one of the Twilight converts...that's what sparked my love. I had no idea the PNR/UF genres existed (YA or adult) And after Twilight I has to search for more. Before that I only read the odd horror.I loved the Hunger Games books (hated the first movie) but I haven't read 1984 yet, although it's on my list.
Lol, I would never have read 1984 if it was not for my philosophy class in college. That and Brave New Wold are classics that really made an impression on me.

3 times I have started the post but got distracted....
Going with this hoping the police procedural part will appeal to me....
Only have limited DT books available as I am on the move again and 25 boxes of DT books are in storage....I now see the benefit of ereaders....
For FS....I will have to double check what I have on the shelf when I get home after work
Valerie ...sorry to hear you were sick...hope you are on the mend...what a diet plan...I reluctantly tried that one in December and lost 15 and so far haven't gained any back....but it was a damn nasty flu...
Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ wrote: "Lol, I would never have read 1984 if it was not for my philosophy class in college. That and Brave New Wold are classics that really made an impression on me."I'll have to add Brave New World to the list too lol
Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ wrote: "Julianne wrote: "Hope you're feeling better soon Val :)"I'm no longer bedridden and puking my guts out so I'm improving, should be good as new real soon. nice diet plan, I lost 3 pounds in a day!"
I'm glad you're on the mend. Not the most enjoyable diet plan...but probably not even the worst considering what's out there lol.

Sorry about that. I totally forgot. I got my FS pick "Angel's Ink" from the SOS bookshelf.
ETA: I also should be finished with (and ready to rate & review) "Stone Guardian" later on tonight.
Get better soon Val. And Rosina, glad you're better and good luck keeping off the pounds, if you need to :)Only reason I read 1984 was they made me in high school. I'd probably enjoy it more now, I think I was too young for that stuff back then.

SG was quite a surprise. It exceeded my expectations (of which I had none).SG follows Larissa, a sheltered 26-year-old teacher & Terak, an honest-to-god GARGOYLE. That was definitely a first for me but Monsch made it work. I mean, Terak's 7 feet tall (oooh lala!) with big, bulging muscles (mmmm, oh yeah)....and grey skin....and claws...a tail...and no eyebrows. O_O I didn't think I'd be into him AT ALL & would have to try to ignore his appearance (like I usually have to with red-headed heroes) but Monsch developed his character so well that I was like "I'd hit that!"
And Larissa? She had a few dumbass moments but they didn't veer into TSTL-landia. She was smart and NICE and was only a little bit of a doormat. The world-building was great. The supporting characters were interesting. The sex? I'd give it a 3. I've read better, like in The Professional, but TP was so UGH, it made me want to drive to the building where it was published and burn that fucker down-which was NOT the case with SG. YOU GO SG! MY PYRO SKILLZ ARE NULLIFIED (hehehe) WHEN FACED WITH YOUR AWESOMENESS!
I'm continuing the series. That is all. *Lethal drops mic*
Well, now I just have to check it out and hope its not expensive. LOL.ETA: Good news, I got it for AU$3.99. Woo-Hoo!!

Review:
It's very difficult to review this book without spoilers if you are not familiar with the series but I'll try.
This is book 6 of a series that started like a simple self contained and easy to read series. yes, the crimes scenes were gruesome but the neat part was that the main character, Kara Gillian, is a summoner of Demons from another Realm. Her training is a bit lacking and the major intricate rules and honor code for demons is different from humans.
Like her other series (White trash Zombie), Kara has a wild childhood and is trying to live her life on the straight and narrow and redeem herself. Even this main character is very flawed and at times made decisions that borders on the TSTL line.
The series grows slowly and the side characters become more multidimensional. It came to a point that I liked Ryan and Zack's struggle with their complicated relationship as much I did for Jenks in the Hollow series.
Book 5 is where all hell broke loose and Holy Hand Grenade Batman did I want to trow my tablet at the wall because the author could NOT go there. I almost didn't want to continue on reading this series so deep was my upset.
Thanks to BSB Bingo, I finished book 6 and I'm glad I did. This book was epic! The events that I shall not mention have still deep impact on the action but mainly the story is a rescue operation. Every little hints from previous books all coalesce together to paint a vivid demon world that I wished I could live in. Kara looses and finds herself on many levels in this story which makes it so very unique.
I know I wrote a lot of nonsense but really it's impossible to discuss any part of the book because it's the great reveal...even if there is still 2-3 books left to be published.
Can't wait for next one! I want to see Zack come to terms with his choices, see Ryan gets his feet under him, a few assholes bite it...but i suspect it's not as simple as that.
*covering mouth as to not catch icky germies* ;) Hope ya'll are feeling better! Sounds quite unpleasant. Finished my demon book and off to write my review if I can keep myself from being distracted. :D

Review:
The Demon's Desire focuses on Meresin, the former Angel of Storms, and Dru, the Vampire King's sister and "the go-to girl for fixing stuff around Terra Noctem". I was intrigued by both in The Demon's Song and was happy to learn more about each of them.
The quiet, forbidding fallen angel who hated everyone and everything had yielded to her, just for a moment, and she'd been able to feel just how much passion and need he had walled up inside himself. The hunger in him had seemed violent, fathomless. In The Demon's Song, we learned a tiny bit about their history. We learned Dru had managed to kiss Meresin, the loner who hates to be touched, as a way to temporarily distract him and they've been snarking at each other ever since. Secretly though, Dru is drawn to Meresin despite his negative reactions when she's around him. And, Meresin is equally drawn to Dru, although he cannot fathom why anyone would be interested in him.
He no longer called the storm. He'd become it.I loved learning more about these two. The world building in this series is done in such a way that it leaves you wanting more instead of wanting it to stop. Kendra's writing has a certain subtlety to it making this a very enjoyable series. I look forward to more Hearts of the Fallen .
I chose
for my Free Space book from SOS Bookshelf. Since I'm listening to the audiobook, it's going to take me longer to finish but that's no issue at the beginning of the game.
Hi ladiesHope those having a long weekend get to have good weather and some fun times.
I'm heading out to the lake this afternoon. I will be finishing the demon book and starting a free space book (I haven't chosen it yet). I wont pick my next book until late Sunday afternoon.
As for the Demon book not sure how I feel about it so far...right now its sitting at a 2.5 rsting...something better happen to bump it up.
Sorry Rosina that this book is not your cup of tea. On the bright side, once you are done with your review we can ask our first stamp!
I love when the shelf works with what I wanted to read next anyway :)For "Shifter" I shall be reading Magic Slays
Hi teammies! Back from Joshua Tree Nat'l Park, where we went camping and hiking for a couple days. Had a great time, until I broke my big toe while rock climbing. :( Ah well, old lady = old bones! I guess. I will vie finished reading my FS book soon. I haven't gotten on my computer yet, so I'm not sure what I'll read for SHIFTERS. I'll let ya know what I pick. Lots to choose from, that's for sure. Too bad I don't have a Mercy book to read. Could always re-read again. :)
Happy early Memorial Day to those in the US! I'll be out of town Mon-Tues, but I'll pick and start my shifter book before then. :) I'll post my FS review this coming week.
Sandra wrote: "Hey Steph, did you know that series is a spinoff of Renegade Angels? And if so have you read them?"I did but I haven't read the two books yet. I've got them TBR though and definitely plan on it. :) Thanks!
Hope you big-toe-booboo is healed fast! And wouldn't the next Mercy or Alpha & Omega book being on hand for this shelf be wonderful!?!
Just got home (I went to the Speed Street festival and it was fun-tastic). I'm slightly inebriated right now (that's a lie. I'm totes inebriated. They were giving out multiple samples of free wine & I had like 8 of them. Who the hell says "No" to free booze anyway?) but I'm well enough to pick a book and it is.......
for Shifter! I'm gonna start it tomorrow because right now I am McUseless. I'm gonna watch sexy ass Shemar Moore on Criminal Minds then go to Sleepytown.

The Kara Gillian series is darker since it's procedural rather a zombie comedy. They are quick and easy to read. I read the first 2 White Trash Zombie series and I can say that there is way more humor than the Kara one.
