~Melissa~ | 1616 comments Damn ...I don't have a red cover on my next list ...at all. Even looked at different editions. I'll figure out what I'm going to read tomorrow. I'll check out covers on my iPad reading apps. Wish #10 of IAD came in a red cover. Oh well.

Belinda | 801 comments Green cover City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare (using alternate cover City of Bones (Chroniken der Unterwelt, #1) by Cassandra Clare )
Finished: 27/6/14
Stars: 2.5
Review:
I know this is popular, that's one if the reasons it's been on my radar however I really struggled with thus one. I found the characters hard to engage with, the story line ho-hum until the last 15-20% where the revelations and bombshells were dropped and the concept of the book didn't seem to fully flow. I'm in two minds whether or not to give book 2 a go....

Awww. Sorry you didn't like it. I thought the movie was awful...apparently so did others because the studio isn't making a sequel.

I know - I saw that - lucky you :) I'm not to #11 yet. These are the 2 I have in dead tree version. No time to read 2 books this week to get this one for us.

Nichole | 1199 comments Hi, just checking in real quick before we are off for the day. I was looking forward to this shelf because I really wanted to read Tangled Threads (Elemental Assassin, #4) by Jennifer Estep . Except this week stinks for that lol. I have been listening to these and I can't get away with audios this week. Sad face. Yes, I could read it but my reading will be sporadic and I can't do that for this series :)

Anyways I asked about an HR I need for a challenge. If that doesn't pan out I'll read Dead Sky Morning (Experiment in Terror, #3) by Karina Halle .

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments I have a stash of finished needleworks that I'm finally going to frame and display once this remodel gets done. It's finally starting tomorrow. Apparently our town permit guy is difficult to pin down.

My friend and I both want to get into some sort of craft that we can sell. I used to do little pictures done all in seed beads. I might start doing those again if my eyes can handle the small detail work. Recently we went to a high end craft fair and there were a couple of woman making pictures out of fabric. Not really quilting but something called "piecing" I think. I want to teach myself to do that and take some sewing lessons.

But I can't even thing about getting into anything like that until the work is done on the house. We are doing an extensive renovation.

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 2516 comments Week 6:
Shelf #7 ~ 28/6/14: 'Red Cover'
Book:
Midnight Man (Midnight, #1) by Lisa Marie Rice (220 pages per goodreads)
Read: June 30
Rating & Review: ★★★. This one was barely above average. Just the same old, same old.

Interior Designer Suzanne Barron was hired by new tenant ex-navy commander John Huntington, in exchange for her to upgrade her security system. On the first day of meeting him, Suzanne and John have passionate sex right outside her door. Her impulsiveness freaked her out, so Suzanne resolved to avoid John as he turned her brain to mush. But when someone sends contract killers to take her out, Suzanne turns to the one person she knows can protect her, the "Midnight Man". This time, she knows once she puts herself in his hands, she is really putting herself in his hands.
But who will protect Suzanne from John?

I don't have much to say about this one that the other reviews don't say. John is an uber alpha, and he was just hung like a horse, blah, blah, blah. It was okay, but there wasn't anything special about the writing, plot or characters. I will read book 2, but I am not in a rush.

this is a good one Melissa. I read book 2 last week or so. I had them on audio.
book 3, which comes out in July won't be on audio for a few months--BOOOOOOOO!

That book should have been called Wallbanger, oh wait, someone else took that title.

It amazes me how men go on and on about how large their male swords are. I wanted to smack John "Midnight Man" on the head and say, your thing isn't as large as a baby (length or width), so STFU!

LOL - I had bought it because of all the talk of how good it was. Yeah, not so much. Will let you know next time. If I remember - it kind of ended abruptly too - lots of build up and then - the end.

Shelf #7 ~ 6/28/14: 'Red Cover'

Lick (Stage Dive, #1) by Kylie Scott
Finished 6/30/14
Rating: 3.5♥
Review: This is a new author to me. Evelyn goes to Vegas with a friend for her 21st birthday. She wakes up in her hotel bathroom to find out that she is married to a hot looking guy who she has never met but oddly looks familiar. OMG - her inner thoughts during this were cracking me up. Oddly familiar guy ends up being the guitar player (David Ferris) for Stage Dive. Evelyn is one of those girls that have the whole long range life plan going on - granted it's not really 'her' plan. So - getting married in Vegas really doesn't fit into this plan. Hot looking guy doesn't take it well that she doesn't remember the night before at all. Just tells her that he'll have his lawyers take care of it as he slams out the door. I liked the book and characters well enough by the end of the book. However for a good portion of the middle of the book David went from being sweet one minute to being a raging asshole the next and since Evelyn feels like she f'd up that first morning together - she cuts him a crap load of slack before finally realizing she can't put up with his secrets and lies. Spoiler only if you've read the book (view spoiler) I will read book #2 as I already own it - we'll see how it goes. Also book 2 is about Mal - I liked him. This reminds me of Sinners on Tour series by Olivia Cunning.

*Edited - I put the wrong edition of the book

Well that is true. If I just had to rate on hotness factor it would have been a 5 :D

Looking forward to Mal's book - Jenne is telling me it's funny. Hopefully I can fit it in this month.

Belinda | 801 comments Red cover: Edge of Dawn (Midnight Breed, #11) by Lara Adrian
Finished: 1/7/14
Stars: 4.5
Review:
This book managed to get me out of my recent reading slump. Moving from challenge to challenge as worn me out a bit and this was the uplift I needed to devour. Although not as good as the BDB it is refreshing to jump back into the pure PNR/UF over dystopian/YA.
Set 20years after the previous book it explores the world of the Order & it's breedmates in an altered world where the vampires are out if the closet and humans are now trying to make peace not war. A lot of familiar faces turn up but we focus on breedmate Mira who fights along side the males of the order and her list love, Kellan, now part of the rebels. The story unfolds as both realise they are somehow working towards the same outcome and there is a traitor somewhere within the group.

Some series are just better on audio.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments You are further than me. I only started last night and read about 30 pages before I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. Had my kindle read me about 10 more pages this morning.

For some reason I have not felt like reading much lately. Not even really listening to any audiobooks for the past 2 weeks even when cleaning out my basement and closets in preparation for this remodel.

message 440: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25912 comments Mary, bet its because all available head space has been allocated to the remodel. LOL.

message 441: by Mary X (last edited Jul 03, 2014 11:50AM) (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments Yes. Plus my friend and my daughter have been helping me with the sorting and purging and I can't listen to an audiobook while they're working with me.

It's very slow at work today and I've just read another 20 pages of my book and there's almost 2 hrs left to the work day. (I'm allowed to read when it's slow)

My Goodreads Challenge tracker says I am 3 books behind. I have like 6 books started and none of them are bad, I just can't make myself pick one and finish.

I used to use it as a phone holder. Once I couldn't find my phone anywhere and used the house phone to call it only to have my boob start ringing.
