~Melissa~ | 1616 comments Week 8: Hit the Road (Car)

Making Promises (Promises, #2) by Amy Lane
Finished 7/13/14
Rating: 3.5♥
Review: so I think I waited a little too long to start book 2. It took me quite a while to get all the characters straight in my head again. Especially since the Prologue is what happened to Shane before he makes his entrance into the Pulpit and he was a minor player at the end of book 1. Once I got that straightened out it was a much smoother ride. Shane is a cop from LA that was outed in the locker room at work by his very first boyfriend and fellow cop who leaves him hanging in the wind. LA Police send Shane into a situation without backup for which Shane ends up in the hospital. When he comes home to his empty apartment and no one visited him - he decides it's time for a move. Mikhail is a dancer in the Ren Fair with Shane's sister to help him make extra money for a promise he has made to his dying Mother. He has had his own problems in the past while growing up in Russia. His Mother finds a way for him to get out and they come to America. Mikhail has made a promise to himself to live his life alone and find hook ups when they come up. Shane does not do one night stands and he is looking for something more lasting. Mikhail is shocked when Shane tells him he is going to court him. While it was fun to be back with these characters I'm wondering if Amy Lane is the MM version of Kristen Ashley. Now I love Kristen Ashley but, man, her books are usually about 50-75pgs too long. That is how this felt. One thing after another until we get to their HEA. Still a good story with a bunch of wonderful characters. I'm hoping she makes a story for Jeff - he cracks me up.

Finished: 14/7/14

Review:
Mercy started a little slow but by the end I couldn't put it down! It was great being back with Mercy & the pack but the review/info dump at the start was a little heavy, however saying that it had been so long I found I actually needed a little reminder about the finer points *embarrassed face* The final battle scene was one I really enjoyed, a little quick but tied everything in together nicely and rounded out the story.

Finished: 7/13/14
Rating: 4.5 Stars!

For me, this is a series that just gets better with each book. Will there come a point where it fizzles? I hope not!

The Spider has declared war on Mab Monroe. She's been targeting her men and leaving a trail of dead bodies with her signature, a spider rune. Or in Gin's words (view spoiler), but the Spider is patient. While stalking her next mark, she sees a trap. Mab has hired an assassin, Elektra LaFleur, to take care of a few problems for her. LaFleur is to kill the Spider, Bria Coolidge and Gin Blanco not knowing how connected they all are.

I think this is becoming my favorite UF series. I just love it. It has a little romance, suspense and a ton of action. In my opinion Gin is a total bad-ass who gets her butt handed to her in every book. But she takes a licking and keeps on ticking and that's what makes this a favorite of mine. She might be doing most of the dirty work herself but her friends are there to help her when needed.

Can I just say that I love Owen. I'm so happy with this development. It just makes sense. (view spoiler) I was also very glad to see the truth of her relationship with Bria come out. That sneaky little Fletcher, pulling things together from the grave. I can't wait for the next book!!

Book:
The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann (392 pages)--[Ship on the left side of book]
Read: July 17
Rating & Review: ★★★1/2.
I liked this but there was something missing for me too. Navy Seal Lieutenant Tom Paoletti is taking a 30day medical leave to heal a head injury which is threatening his career. He decides to go home to Baldwinsbridge (Boston-area) and returns to his uncle Joe, who tends the landscaping of beloning to Charles Ashton. Charles and Joe have been best friend for decades but Charles was dying of cancer. Charles' daughter, Kelly Ashton was also in town.

Tom and Kelly have been nursing a crush on each other since high school. But Tom is unsure he could be anything to Kelly because he was in imminent danger of losing his career. See Tom thinks he has been seeing an international criminal named The Merchant whom everyone believes is dead. People think Tom is hallucinating or is paranoid, but if what Tom believes is true, many people are in danger.

This story involves three generations of Paoletti (Joe, Tom and Mallory) and their journeys to love.
I need time to digest what was missing about this story and I can't do it right now. I like it enough to continue though.

A little too much of the kids for me in this one. I assume she's building up to Jack & George getting their own books as adults. Bayou Moon so far is my favorite of the series. I would recommend reading this series in order but it isn't absolutely necessary. She provides just enough background to inform/remind the reader of what has happened without rehashing the whole previous story line so much that those who remember will be annoyed. This one has a lot of action.

Blood Magic (World of the Lupi, #6) by Eileen Wilks
7/1914
Rating: 4♥'s

Review: I love this series. As much as I love the crazy magic story lines this author comes up with I think I like how her romantic couples interact and get along more. This time Lily, Rule, Cynna and Cullen are up against an old enemy of Grandmother and Sam's. Lily learns some interesting/unsettling things about herself. We learn more of Grandmother's background. She scares and fascinates me all at once. Amid all this Lily's mother is pestering her to make decisions about the pending nuptials between her and Rule. Lily is not taking it well, lol. Add one of Lily's old boyfriends to the mix and you have another fabulous book!! I'm looking forward to #7

These are always a quick easy read filled with snippets of history, mystery & action. Annja is pulled in by 'the company' to assist a innuit Indian tribe move there burial site so diamond mining can begin. It seems simple right? Only the company has it own agenda it's not about money, it's about releasing dark gods....

Book choice:
Friday Night Bites by Chloe Neill (357 pages per goodreads)
Read: July 19
Rating & Review: 3.5 stars
This sequel was better than book 1 but I am still not enthralled yet. Merit seems like she is finally committing to the Cardogan house and taking up her role as House sentinel.
Celina has been let out of prison after her murder attempt so Merit and the rest of house is on edge. Plus, someone is trying to stir up trouble in the supernatural world. Ethan and Merit start to investigate, while their attraction grows. Merit is forced to make some tough decisions about her relationship with Morgan, and her friendship with Mallory also takes a hit.
Merit grows into her new life as a vampire in this book and finally embraces herself.

I like this book, but I didn't love it. I will read book 3

Review:

I don't want to give too much away for those who haven't read this series yet. Giovanni and Beatrice head to China in hopes of forming alliances with the powerful Elders of the Immortal Court. While Bea is being introduced to the politics of the Vampire council and continuing her training, Lorenzo is making plans to move against them.

Oh boy, a lot happens in this book. Secrets are revealed, hard decisions are made, betrayal, a battle and much more. The thing I love about this series is it's consistency. Every book has been a good solid 4 stars for me. It's missing that spark to take it to five stars but it delivers on everything else. It's a combination of A Discovery of Witches and The Da Vinci Code. You have vampires, a search for a book, history, clues, bad guys, globe trotting and romance. If you liked either one of those books, you will love this.

This was Regin's HEA and it is set during the same time with Lucia's book and Carrow's Book.

Regin was engaged to Aidan the Fierce before he was murdered. He kept coming back reborn again and dying when he remembered Regin and their love. Regin gets captured by Magistrate Declan Chase, the same guy who was working for the Order and she realizes Declan is Aidan's new reincarnation.

While she falls for her lover, she is also aghast at the havoc he is wrecking on all those she loves. She has the power to destroy him, by helping him to remember her and their love. But she is so tired of losing Aidan time and time again.

This book was really a big emotional rollercoster and it was a lot of pain for the main characters. I really liked Declan but not like I liked Garreth and the men before. I didn't enjoy this one as much because it lacked some of the funnier moments but it did have sweet ones too.

I am amazed at how Cole keeps simultaneous stories going on at the same time but they are all their own journeys to HEA. Bravo!

*sighing* Lothaire, that sneaky leech is up next. I am still mad at what he did to Carrow, and the lies he told young Thad. I hope he is redeemed in his book.
