Hit-The-Road. This is the one I had the least of in my TBR. Well that I could tell easily without looking at lots of editions. Hopefully I have one easily accessible as I just put a lot of my books in storage.

Nichole | 1199 comments That's hilarious, Mary!

I'm hoping to finish up my red book tonight or tomorrow if I can't keep my eyes open. We're home and I'm a little exhausted so I'll pick a book for this week tomorrow. I've been missing my audiobooks!

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 2484 comments So yeah! 3 of library ebooks have editions that work for this. So I will probably read one of these 2 as they are expiring first:

Kissed a Sad Goodbye (Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James, #6) by Deborah Crombie

(train that's hard to see unless enlarged)

The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #12) by J.R. Ward
(cars in the background)

Going to see if I have an audio book that works for this as well. I'll post when I commit to a book.

eta: got an audiobook option:
A Week From Sunday by Dorothy Garlock

Sorry I can't be more specific. I'm still partially moving out of my house and I don't know how much reading time I'll have as opposed to audiobook time.

~Melissa~ | 1616 comments I'm still deciding what book I'm going to go with

I have:

Something Like Summer (Seasons, #1) by Jay Bell - ebook
One Sweet Ride (Play by Play, #6) by Jaci Burton - dead tree version
Making Promises (Promises, #2) by Amy Lane - audio

I'll update once I know for sure

Red Cover
Finished: 7/5/14
Stars: undecided-see review

Hmm. I want to give this book 5 stars because I love the series. I want to give it 1 star for (view spoiler).
Plus I think this is the last book of the series and that ticks me off. It didn't feel like a last book of a series despite the above mentioned spoiler. I guess I'll give it 3 stars. If another book comes out, maybe I'll go back and give it 4. I think I waited too long between the last one and this one because I had kind of forgotten what happened in the series so far.

Nichole | 1199 comments Week 7: Red Cover
Captive Bride by Johanna Lindsey by Johanna Lindsey
Finished: 7/6/14
Rating: 2-2.5 stars
Review:

After losing both of her parents, Christina Wakefield decides that she must go with her brother to Egypt. Shortly after arriving she is kidnapped and held captive by Sheik Abu, who she knows as Philip Caxton from England. The handsome man that had the audacity to propose to her after one meeting.

Fighting against the desire that he brings out in her, she tries to resist him but ends up falling in love with him. Deceived by his brother, she goes back to England carrying his child and completely heartbroken. When Philip learns that he is a father he goes after his child and his love.

The thing is, I'm not sure if it's the author or the old school HR that I don't care for. This is the 3rd book by Johanna Lindsey that I've read and I only liked one of them. Then again, I haven't read many old school HR's. It was meh, okay.

Belinda | 801 comments Free space Time Untime (Dark-Hunter, #11) by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Finished: 7/7/14
Stars: 3
Review:
This had potential, even if wasn't a dark hunter novel. The Mayan prophecies interest me. But between the slow, slightly confusing start with jumping forward, backwards and into dreams/memories of other people and the insta-love this is far from my favourite dark hunter novel. I'm hoping when I pick up styxx it will revert to its glory.

I hope it's better than When You Dare (Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor, #1) by Lori Foster which was okay. Predictable, but okay audiobook.

message 480: by Nichole (new)

Nichole | 1199 comments Btw Melissa, I had a great time in Branson. It's a good place for a family vacation. We all picked a couple things we wanted to do.

Dixie Stampede- it was the only show we went to but it was fun. And they serve dinner!

The Tiger Sanctuary- not very big but one of the Lions was excited and kept roaring and pacing. Pretty neat! His former owner was there and he was excited. It's worth the extra $10 to feed them.

Silver Dollar City- we spent a whole day here. Shows, shops, rides, food...

We played mini golf and then went to The Hollywood Wax Museum- We had a lot of fun at the wax museum just doing silly poses with the figures. Unfortunately, the pictures were really awful. I should have used my phone :( We need a new camera!!

We did go-carts and went to the Imax. Went to the Butterfly Palace- not much to this but it had a room that you go in with exotic butterflies flying around and landing on people. Big beautiful ones. It was really hot and humid in there though!

We rented a boat and spent most of a day on the lake, which is really nice. I jumped off a 15-20 foot cliff! I thought "that doesn't look so bad"... until I climbed my fat butt up to the top! I wasn't climbing back down so I had to jump! Besides i couldn't let the 50 little kids, doing it over and over again, show me up :)

We also did quite a bit of shopping and eating :) I feel like I'm leaving things out with as busy as we were *shrugs*

Anyways, there are a lot of shows/attractions and the lake is really nice. Our condo was really nice too with just a short walk down to the water.

The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #12) by J.R. Ward

Another book that has me wanting to give it 1 star 1 minute and 5 the next. First I was already really tired of the brand name dropping and the excessive slang use in the BDB books. It wasn't quite as bad in this one because there was less of the actual brother's in this book. Probably because they are all mated off at this point. I really miss when the books were primarily about the main couple of that particular book like it used to be in the beginning. There's so many subplots and side stories going on and I get tired of keeping track. I wish the whole Assail and Sola thing had just been put in as a short in an anthology and not used to swell this book to over 500 pages. Same with Trez & Selena. Give them their own books or shorts in anthologies if you don't want to write a whole book for them. I wanted more of pregnant Beth and Wrath.

Nichole | 1199 comments Week 8: Hit the Road (Saddled Horses)
Duncan's bride by Linda Howard by Linda Howard
Finished: 7/10/14
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review:

After losing half his ranch in a divorce settlement, Reese Duncan is working hard to get it back on track. He doesn't have the time to date so he puts an ad in the paper to find a wife. Thinking he can keep things impersonal by setting up rules for himself and his new wife, he doesn't expect to ever love again. He's also full of bitterness.

Madelyn Patterson is a stylish NYC girl who is drifting through life and ready for a change. Upon meeting each other, the chemistry is palpable. But a city girl is not what Reese needs or so he thinks.

I really enjoyed this battle of wills. It had strong sexual tension, an arrogant and domineering male, a cool and collected female that wasn't afraid to stand up to him. You go girl! To be honest, there were a few times I thought "uh oh, I don't know if this is for me" because let's face it...Reese was a total asshole to her. I've been reading some old bodice-rippers for another challenge and this has been killing me! However, Maddie didn't take his crap and she made him work for it. Men are pretty slow sometimes but he eventually came around.
