This one was just kind of "meh" for me. I was a bit flummoxed at first by the whole different team and only cameos from a couple of familiar "Troubleshooters". And I have to admit I didn't find the new team as intriguing as the old SEAL team. As far as Tess & Jimmy/James/Diego goes I really liked her for the most part. I felt like there were times when she could have listened to people with more experience in the field, but she was trying to prove herself so it was understandable. I also felt like Jimmy/James/Diego never really deserved her. To put it bluntly, he was kind of a shithead. And he didn't seem to change much by the end.
The other characters worked better for me and once I got to know them I enjoyed the suspense story and their part in it. Although I felt like there was a lot more banter between team members in the previous books. Overall, the plot zipped along and the pages flipped by but it isn't a favorite for me in this series.

Probably because not quite sure whether we will actually be able to hold the event! We've had torrential rain, and several areas of the prefecture are "enjoying" evacuation, or "prepare to be evacuated" status (flooding, inundation with a high possibility of landslides, etc...hey, just now watching the town just south of us playing the leading spot on the national news...flooding! Oh, and there's another big typhoon headed this direction...never a dull moment!)
Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow (shelf, that is!).
Oh, Karen...just want to know if it's absolutely spectacular...no spoilers, please!! (Decided, that is my reward for finishing uni grades this weekend/early next week!)

Lots of books to look through on that shelf! Fun!

Do let me know what you think about Dire Straits, Sandra.

Alien vs. Alien by Gini Koch
Shelf #11 ~ 27/7/14: 'Two's Company'
Date finished: 8/1/14
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:
This is the 6th installment of Gini Koch's Katherine "Kitty" Katt series. Koch's humor is in full force and the action, and Kitty's mouth, never stop.
An old nemesis is making an unwanted return with a large armada of unfriendly aliens with an unhealthy (for the current residents) interest in Earth. Once again, all the people Kitty truly cares about are in various degrees of danger from serious to OMG...but she tackles it all with her usual style. This is a very fun series and such a great escape (had to limit myself to chapter breaks while finishing up other very necessary projects this week). I'll absolutely be continuing with this series!

Oh yeah, it was pretty awesome. :)

Shelf #12: Vampires
Date: 4/8/14

This is typical Helen Harper urban fantasy goodness. When she gets her fangs into a series its ruthless blood, murder and mayhem.
Bo Blackman is a low-level P.I. working for a firm titled Dire Straits. She's sent to deliver a summons to an Agothos Daemon and almost gets framed for his murder.
When she makes it back to the office, she witnesses them all being killed by a vampire and she is now on the run from the police, the vamps, and whoever set her up in the first place.
Really intriqued to find out what the heck her grandfather is, as well.
This was a very interesting take on vamps and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

Shelf #11 - Two's Company
Date: 6/8/14
Rating: ★★★★
First in series, special ops meets shifters in the DCO (Dept of Covert Operations).
Hunky gorgeous Captain Landon Donovan is pulled out of Afghanistan just as he and his team are about to take out their target, and he's sent to Washington DC.
There he is introduced to the DCO, his new role, if he passes, and Ivy Halliwell, his new potential partner. Ivy has had trouble with partners in the past and is reserving judgment on this new one.
Landon was great, understandably concerned he has been pulled out of the war and what is happening to his team and his career but also wanting to excel at whatever he does.
When Ivy reveals her special abilities he doesn't freak out and goes with the flow, realising she is actually a tremendous asset out in the field. It doesn't hurt that he is also falling for her.
We have mad scientists, corrupt politicans, angry shifters and Landon's team to round out a very good story.
