Sandra | 25908 comments Lion's Honor (Ridgeville, #9) by Celia Kyle
Shelf #10: Headless H/h
Date: 22/7/14
Rating: ★★★★★

This is the last Ridgeville story, at least for now. And it packs an emotional punch right to the guts.

Grayson, Alex's second knew that Honor was his mate when she was 16. However, she wouldn't know for certain until she had her first heat at about 20. Honor decides to go to England to get her degree & Masters, which means she interacts with the London pride.

There is something very, very wrong in London.

When Honor comes home she is a broken woman.

This is the story of a very strong woman and the friends and family who love her enough to give her what she needs even when sometimes she doesn't want it.

Oh, and revenge. Got to have revenge.

Love Celia Kyle's writing and if she wants to write more Ridgeville I'll be reading them.

I'm waving hello to Thursday here in Arizona.

I am inexcusably LATE with my read of Drink Deep. I will have the review up a little later this morning.
I plan to pull an old fashion sit at home all weekend and just read-a-thon this weekend because it's going to be too hot to go outside. I even have the sarsaparilla ready for it too! :P

The reviews will be very short!

Week 5: Green/Teal Cover: Sweet Talk Me
Title: Sweet Talk Me by Keiran Kramer
Date Finished: Finished July 2, 2014
Rating: ★★★★
Review: This was a cute humorous romance; one of those second chance at love books that make you believe love conquers all. Harrison was a kid from the wrong side of the tracks; while True was raised to be a gentile Southern lady. True’s stuffy parents forbid their childhood relationship and encouraged her to pursuit Dubois the “perfect” Southern Gentleman, but he is definitely not the man for her. Great beach or summer read.

Sherri | 781 comments Week 6: Reader's Choice
Title Claimed By Shadows by Karen Chance
Date Finished: Finished July 1, 2014
Rating: ★★★ 1/2
Review: I’m still on the fence about this series. I like the premise and the overall plot shows promise but it is going so DARN slow. Cassie has spent a book and a half trying to get her footing as Pythia and her escapades are getting old. I want her to just grab the Pythia by the throne and become one; as well as break the darn curse because it is just plain creepy to have something like that controlling you. I’m also torn about Mircea and Pritkin; one moment I want her to find happiness with one and then when he screws her over I want her to be with the other one. Those two are too devious for their own good. Throw in Tomas' reintroduction into the series and every man she's known has taken advantage of her. Hopefully Cassie will settle into her role as Pythia and a guy she can trust.

Sherri | 781 comments Week 9: Armed and Ready:
Title: Curse the Dawn Me by Karen Chance
Date Finished: July 24, 2014
Rating: ★★★★ 1/2
Review: Finally we are getting somewhere with this series. This has to be my favorite book of the series so far. Full of action and another crazy plot Curse the Dawn started and finished with a bang. Cassie continues to grow on me; although she wouldn’t be at or even near the top of a top UF heroine. She continues to make emotional decisions that are often unwise, pouts and whines constantly and is petulant often. That said, she is loyal to a fault but scared emotionally by her upbringing. The crazy “take over the world” plot is concluded and hopefully Cassie will now settle into being Pythia. Favorite scenes in this book include Cassie's stint as Pritkin and his as hers. Priceless!!

Sherri | 781 comments Week 7: Red cover:
Title: Romancing the Duke by Tessa Dare
Date Finished: Finished July 9, 2014
Rating: ★★★ 1/2
Review: This was a sweet historical romance with a fun take on the whole fairy tale theme. Isolde(Izzy) inherits Ghostly Castle and finds the “deceased” duke, Ransom, in residence. Ransom has been both emotionally and physically scarred and has become so much a recluse that he doesn’t know that he has been decreed dead and Ghostly Castle sold. You can pretty much guess the remaining story and you would be about 80% correct. There are a couple of crazy twists, i.e. the role-playing nights and Ransom’s ex-fiancé, which reminded me of today’s author groupies and fans and thought it was a fun take. Overall, Romancing the Duke was fun and witty and the banter between Izzy and Ransom was enjoyable.

Sherri | 781 comments I'm hoping my new glasses come in this week as I'm having a difficult time reading without them. I ordered reading and distance ones last week and they said it would be a week and a half.

I think that leaves me with two outstanding books. Weeks 8 and 10.

OK, heading back to work.

Kimberly (gravy) | 530 comments FINALLY!!!
Drink Deep (Chicagoland Vampires, #5) by Chloe Neill
Finished: 23 July
Rating: 4 Stars

I didn't realize how much I missed Ethan while I was reading.
Okay, could someone please tell me who goes over to someones house and steals ashes? Who does that?
I was about done with that person after that happened. Then again, that person never held my interest in the first place.
Where did Simon go at the end of the book and why did Catcher act like a brat throughout the book? I guess the movies on the Lifetime Movies channel were enough of a distraction because he clearly wasn't paying attention to what was going on.
I like Jonah! He has no chance in hell with Merit, but I like him! I kind of wish it would have made sense for him and Merit to deck Morgan and his girlfriend in the bar.
Tate, Tate, Tate! I thought he might be a shifter in disguise. Like a Were-Worm because he's so slimey, but he's not. I think he may be a sorcerer of some kind. For my own curiosity, it will be worth it to keep reading this series to find out what he is.
While the solution to all the problems happening in the book were predictable, I still enjoyed what happened to the point of talking to the book. Once I start talking to a book you know it has my attention.

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 540 comments Mate Claimed (Shifters Unbound, #4) by Jennifer Ashley

Book:Mate Claimed by Jennifer Ashley
Shelf: Headless
Date Finished: 7/25/14
Rating: 3 Stars

Some of the rating of this book is of the "it's not you, it's me" variety. I've been going a little off on romance as a genre lately so I think if I'd been in a different state of mind I would have enjoyed it more. As it was, I do like the world in these Shifter Unbound books. It's an interesting take on shifters being a bit under the thumb of humans and being segregated into "Shiftertowns" where they are only allowed so much freedom. So all those parts of the book I really liked. How the shifters get around restrictions, how they seem to be biding their time under these conditions and where the government or individuals with power overstep their bounds. All of that drew me into the story and kept me there.

What didn't work so well for me was the romance itself. And I feel like I'm saying that about a lot of books lately so take that for what it's worth. Eric starts typical stalker, controlling alpha who "knows what she needs". Words can't express how sick I am of that character. I will say that Eric is on the less creepy side of that spectrum, I never actively hated him the way I do so many current "heroes" but if my eyeballs weren't attached properly they would have ended up permanently rolled up into my head. Iona did stand up for herself for the most part and I appreciated it when toward the end (view spoiler).

I do like Jennifer Ashley's books as a rule so I'm sure when I regain my romance mojo I'll read the next in the series.

Judithe | 6566 comments The Mane Event (Pride, #1) by Shelly Laurenston
The Mane Event by Shelly LaurenstonShelf #10 ~ 20/7/14: 'Headless H/h'
Date finished: 07/22/14
Rating: ★★★★☆
Thoughts:

This is actually a two-fer...two stories that start off Shelly Laurenston's Pride series. The first story is about NYPD cop Desiree "Dez" MacDermot who runs into her childhood crush when investigating a murder, closely related to his sister. Sparks fly, but it's a bit complicated as her crush, Mace Llewellyn, is a lion shifter. The second, shorter story is about another lion shifter falling for Ronnie Lee Reed, a southern wolf. The stories focus on the main couple, but there are a lot of fun characters surrounding them...and it's fun knowing there are a lot more potential stories with them as well.

These stories are hot and humorous...and a really fun read! I had this in a bundle with two others, and devoured all three. Finally caught a moment to visit the online bookstore and pick up the next one...can't wait!
