For this prompt I read The Secret Garden. I remember watching the film when I was younger, and it's one of those stories that makes me feel very nostalgic as a result.

I was surprised to find that the original book is quite different! I definitely prefer the film (not just because of the nostalgia), the book just seemed to take itself too seriously. It was a love letter to Yorkshire, which was lovely, but when Mary had decided to start speaking the Yorkshire dialect, it just came across as pretentious rather than authentic.

Clearly it's a magical story at its heart, otherwise it couldn't have inspired a one of my favourite childhood films, but the original book fell flat for me :(
