Quantum (quantumkatana) How about Clive custler? He's My mom's favorite right now. In one of the books that I read--only the prologue--the dialogue of 18th century (I think) was superb.

Nik Krasno | 19865 comments Cussler is a big name no doubt. Maritime, techno.
As the genre is so diverse and encompasses from Agatha Christie's and Conan Doyle 's classic mysteries/detective thrillers to techno-, action-, pulp, noir and so on, it's hard to put a finger even on three. I don't think I have an answer to a question 'what's your favorite book' and likewise - thriller.
Grisham, Clancy are huge. Ludlum some argue.
And there is a huge seller - John Locke somewhere in the thriller niche, no less -:)

Graeme Rodaughan I'm honestly stuck...

I'll have a stab at it.

Robert Heinlein's early work had my glued to the page. Same with Stephen King and Tom Clancy.

M.L. Tom Clancy. I recently read 3 of his back to back. More in the 'could not put down' category . . . The Name of The Rose, 1Q84. I don't think anyone would call them thrillers but more engrossing which to me is often more satisfying.
