I have not made very quick progress with this book. I'm on page 160 right now. I like it but I've just got many books to read. I find the concept of the book very interesting and the world building is exquisite, so detailed. But I'll write more once I get a bit further in the story.

I just finished chapter 6.

This book is very interesting somehow. It's somehow very unique and unlike any other book that I've read. First I felt like the story's kind of slow but I'm getting more and more into it as more things are starting to happen.

All the characters in this book (view spoiler)[ are interesting. I'm quite fascinated with all of them and none of them annoyes me, which is rare. I especially like Locke and his gentlemen bastards. Their plans and all their scheming is very interesting to follow and I like their friendship as well. (hide spoiler)]

I like the way (view spoiler)[ the narration switches between past and the present. During the interludes that take place in the past something new is always revealed of how the gentlemen bastards came to be who they are now and these throwbacks create a nice background for the main story. The world building in this book (view spoiler)[ is just spectacular. There are so many details about the city, the culture, the social order etc that it must have taken a tremendous amount of planning from the author. I especially love how everything's made of elderglass and the Garden Without Fragrance is just one example of the exquisite details I love. (hide spoiler)]

I would like to know more about (view spoiler)[ Sabetha and what happened between her and Locke. I'm also wondering who the Gray King really is. I can feel the net tightening around Locke and his crew and I wonder how he's going to get out of the situation he's got himself into! (hide spoiler)]

I FEEL TERRIBLE!!! I told you I'd start way back on the 10th and I still haven't. I am just SO overwhelmed with late buddy reads, my personal life, and my teaching (finals to grade, a new term starts today so new students, and lessons to plan). I always have an excuse but they really are legit. I just haven't learned to say no to a buddy read yet. LOL

Don't feel terrible! And they're not excuses, they're actual reasons :) And I know you have a LOT of buddy reads so it's just natural it takes some time to catch up!

I really like this book but I'm just reading it so slowly and I don't even know why. Now somebody had put in on hold so I need to return it to the library today. I'll try my best to finish it but I still have 130 pages to go.

Anyway, I've finished chapter 12 so here are some thoughts.

The story (view spoiler)[ is just getting better and more interesting. Seriously, so many twists and great characters. I didn't expect the Gray King to use Locke as a bait and I didn't expect Calo, Galdo and Bug to be killed. So sad. I really wonder how Locke is going to get his revenge on the Gray King with most of his gang gone and him supposedly dead. I also wonder if they'll still go on with the Salvara scam and if the Spider will catch them eventually. I'd also like to know what happened between Barsavi and the Grey King that made the king hate Barsavi so much. (hide spoiler)]

Aargh...I really want to see how this book ends. I have a feeling (view spoiler)[ Locke and Jean will make it out Camorr somehow. (hide spoiler)] I wish I'd be able to finish this but I'm feeling doubtful. This book is somehow so unique and it's certainly headed for 5 stars.

Kiki, I've had that happen so many times! It sucks because life gets in the way so often! I hope you can finish it & I'm so sorry I wasn't able to read at the same time you did. That might have helped you get it done.

STILL haven't read it but I am going to start it this weekend AFTER another birthday party for my granddaughter tomorrow. The end of the year is CRAZY for me! I have 19 grandkids and 8 or 9 have their birthdays between October 9 and Dec. 9...ugh! LOL Plus my daughter's birthday is October 16, hubby's is November 7, and if I stop to really think about it there's more...oh, my daughter-in-law is Dec. 18, my son-in-law Dec. 30. LOL

I WILL get this done!
