Evan Ragsdale | 9 comments “Beverly?” I started toward the back door, tugging my robe a little tighter. It was hard to keep from playing out nightmare scenarios. Like maybe she’d managed to dig a hole under the fence and was running loose somewhere, looking for the way home. But how would she know where home was?”(197) Sarah is explaining to the reader that she is fearful about her dog, Beverly, mainly because of her recent escape. She tries to be hopeful about the situation, but she keeps on playing out "nightmare scenarios". Sarah lays out these types of scenarios, mainly because of her inability to remember anything before the accident. She finds that when she has no memories, she has nothing to fall back on. Sarah finds that she is very similar to her dog, especially in this situation. She can't find home, in which is comfortability. She can't become content with herself until she finds her memory before the incident. She used to avoid discovering everything about her past. Overall, Sarah realizes that her dog is in need of help, but she realizes that there is a deeper meaning that can be dug out of this situation.
