Blayke Pierzina | 2 comments Ok so I am 16 and I read this book in maybe.. 4th or 5th grade? My memory is horrible so that very well could be completely false lol Anyways the book is set in the distant future I believe. Its about a teen boy and his friend(s) and I don't know if he's an archaeologist yet or not but anyways the earth was becoming too populated so they had to split it in half. One half would stay the other would leave. He was chosen to leave but his friend had to stay so he was bummed out about that. I think they go into a big spaceship? And he has to do certain jobs or chores and take classes of his choice, and he chose archaeology class. I remember there being some sort of conflict with him and another student and a plant they were studying was in a glass enclosure and they broke it. Another part I remember was him flying out onto the other planet (I think?) to do his archaeology stuff I guess but they found a building half under ground. They went inside and this is the part I remember the most for whatever reason. They are going through a dark corridor in the building and they cant see so they are walking a long the wall until they find some sort of light source and when they do they realize they are in a room with a bunch of buttons almost as if it were a spaceship (It may have been I don't remember). That is all I remember and barely. It could be multiple books I've talked about but I'm highly certain it's just one. I don't know the author or anything but I think something with "star" was in the title but I could be wrong. If anyone could name this book I would literally love you for the rest of my life cause I've been looking for over a year now.

Irene Tait (angryirene) | 9 comments Hey Blayke - I've never heard of this book, but it sound really interesting. I hope someone else manages to help!

There's a post I think you should read first, written by the group admins, that has suggests for how to best write these "help me find a book!" posts (here is the link https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...). One of the things they ask people do is write a brief summary in the title heading of your post, as that increases the # of folk who actually click on a post to see if they know it. Posts that just say "help!" or something to that effect are unlikely to garner much response. So maybe changing your heading to something like "YA sci-fi about a teen who travels in space and learns about archaelogy" would be a good start.

Hope you have some luck!!

Blayke Pierzina | 2 comments Thanks, I just wasn't too certain with what I remember and didn't want to put that in the title if it was wrong. What I remember of the book is very vague and probably wrong cause it's been so long, but i'll do it anyways. Hopefully it works.

Blayke, thanks for sharing that. It's a good point.

A plot description in the topic header really helps. If people are uncertain about a point (for example, did he study archaeology or something else), they can convey that uncertainly in their header using a question mark (for example, "... archaeology? ...").
