Now I have to get and read two books. I think I missed last month, and this one is already well under way before I realized it. Oy.
Yes, this back to school became really hectic for us, so I haven't been reading except to my granddaughter. Need to get this one going again just for me.
I read this book a while back. This book has a place for 3rd culture Chinese kids and children who have one Chinese parent, as they will have some exposure to the Chinese culture but do not fully relate to it as part of their own heritage. I am glad Grace Lin wrote it.
I just finished this and I liked it a lot. Not sure how my kids would feel though; like many memoirs (especially for kids) it was a bit slow and explained things a bit too much. Still, I really liked Pacy's voice and the book introduced me to a culture I don't know very much about, so all in all a great read for me!
I thought it was a good introduction to Taiwanese culture, but I also thought much of it read like a travelogue. Not sure if kids would pick up on that or not. I liked a lot of it, but some just didn't read well.
It does have cute line drawing to illustrate things, as though done by Pacy (so there is room for those of us who don't draw well to provide our own illustrations?!).
