Rosemarie I have read the book Far Away and Long Ago by William Henry Hudson. This book tells the story of his childhood on the Argentine pampas. His loving family was not wealthy so the childrn were not sent away to school in England. He and his brothers had many opportunities to explore the surrounding areas. Hudson had a deep love of nature, especially birds, and wonderful powers of observation. He also talks about his various neighbours.
He laments the disappearance of the natural habitats of the various wild creatures, one hundred years before our time. I enjoyed this book, one of main reasons being the vivid descriptions of people and places.
Hudson's most famous book is Green Mansions.
