I have began to have thoughts about Mirabella being the one to survive at the end of all this due to the fact everybody else is getting into all the action. I can't believe that the high priestess wants to kill off Arisone first because she has become my favorite out of all three of the queens. The pace of the book has definitely picked up after the half way mark. (hide spoiler)]

After I started listening to the audiobook and getting farther into the story I was definitely hooked. I'm super glad I ordered the next two books because im ready to continue on with the series now. I didn’t like the 3rd person on Katharine because the chapter was a lot about what she felt but the 3rd person did work for Arsinoe’s chapter.
I’m really interested in what Mirabella’s chapter will be like since she’s been portrayed as the favourite and kinda crazy! (hide spoiler)]

Anyway, up to page 46 (view spoiler)[ I thought it'd be a lot darker! Also I can't get into the writing! It's like I'm reading a play! I think present tense only works with first person but I'm hoping this book surprises me. I mean, the second chapter was better, I think I like Arsinoe better.
Oh and I think like they're queens of their own land but they're contesting to be queen of the whole land or something - Im confused too tbh 😂

I think Arsinoe has doomed Jude to either never love Joseph or maybe even die...which isn't great!

I still can't get into the writing, it's definitely not my fave, but yes the subplots are intriguing!
All the sisters' people are so brutal, I'd be down if they just all teamed up and ruled as one.
I'm so worried for Jules now, Arsinoe really put her foot in it. She's obviously been set up though!
I like the idea of familiars but the idea sorta IS familiar.... ;P (hide spoiler)]

I'm kind of disappointed with how petty the girls are. I was expecting vicious killers...

(view spoiler)[I know!! But I think that Katharine and Arsinoe are pretty ruthless if you hear some of the stuff they say about killing each other, or at least cold.
Joseph really messed up though and then he KEPT GOING! Like, at first he practically died and was confused but after that there really was no excuse for him. I guess this is because Arsinoe burned that thing though? (hide spoiler)]

I'm going to be pretty busy over the next few days so I don't think I could finish it all tomorrow but I've looked ahead and maybe we could read up to the Beltane festival (page 290)?

That bear scene was intense. And Arsinoe with that big scar down her face!

I'm confused too, I even read the chapter sampler for the next book and Katharine is definitely not playing around this time. (run Pietyr! (but also why did he even do that?!))

So... she's a poisoner... then Katharine is maybe what Mirabella is? (i'm sorry I don't remember what they're called... naturalists? But then what's Arsinoe's kind called?)
The writing was the main issue I had with the book. I really didn't like it! And yeah it was slow, like only 200 pages in it gets going...
Also I didn't get the deal with Joseph. I just don't like cheaters in general, but he wasn't really resolved in that... maybe it'll get resolved in the other books but urgh...

So yeah I gave it two stars, I would have been content if this had been about queens who assassin each other! (hide spoiler)]
