This will actually be my fifth (I think) time reading the Pawn. It's my favorite series, but definitely not for anyone who is squeamish as it can get intense/gruesome.

Wow 5 times is great, especially with mystery/action series! I can handle gruesome so much easier in books than movies because I don't have to picture it, I can somehow let my eyes read the words without allowing myself to picture the image. I just skim the words once my brain registers it's describing an injury. Let me see if the library has it and I may jump in. Should I try to read Opening Moves first? I haven't read that one yet.

Same here. Books are different than movies for the exact same reason. I try not to watch disturbing things.

Opening Moves is the prequel, but it is even more intense than this one and deals with cannibalism (it mentions real cases, as well).
