25.4 - Perletwo's Task: Popularity Contest

The "Pop" in "Pop Art" stands for "popular," of course. But when you're talking about art, there's popular and then there's popular.

This is a two-book task. Read one Book 1 and one Book 2.
Books with the genre Childrens or Kids are NOT allowed.

Book 1: The most simple kind of popular art is that art which reaches the largest number of people. Read a book from this Goodreads list: Best Selling Books of All Time

Book 2: Then there's art that never achieves widespread acclaim, but somehow refuses to die off over time - art that attracts, one might say, a cult following. Read a book from this Goodreads list: Cult Classics
Required: State the page on this list where your book is found.

Wanda (wanda71) | 1770 comments Did you realize that 1/5 of the books on the Best Selling Books are Children's books and yet these books are not allowed to be used? Granted several of them would not meet the length requirement but most of them would meet the reading level requirements. I was just wondering why the exclusion of children's books-e.g The Hobbit has children's listed on its main genre page and yet many adults continue to read and enjoy it.

:-) If you look at the comments from the 'Cult Classics' list the general feeling is that some people wouldn't know what a 'cult classic' was if it dressed in a pink peacock outfit and danced the macarena in front of them!

Diane, I think you meant to pop this in the help thread for 25.5, but anyhow, IMDB is the Internet Movie Database - extremely useful resource site with Goodreads-type pages for movies & TV shows.

Sam F | 205 comments May I use The Fellowship of the Ring as one of the Best Selling Books of All Time? The Lord of the Rings #1-3 is listed second on page 1, but not the individual books.

From FAQ
" If the entry on a list is a box set, you cannot substitute an individual book from the set, and if the book on the list is in a series, you cannot substitute a different book in the series."
