I think we might need a separate thread to go into this debate ;)

Honestly, if that wouldn't have happened, I probably would have knocked off a star because it really wouldn't have matched their characters so far as I understood them. I wasn't sure how it was going to play out, but I was hoping for something along those lines. Even though I was hoping for it, I was pretty surprised!

Sleeping is good too...not quite as good as a good book, but sadly necessary. Think of all the time we could spend reading if we didn't have to sleep. :O

I try hard to identify with all the characters, empathize with their motivations, plights, fears, ambitions, whatever. My goal was to complicate things enough you could kind of see where everyone was coming from. Well, except maybe Azmorgon. He isn't too layered. But still fun to write. ;)

That was actually a tough scene to write. Two were tougher, of course, but that one still ranked pretty high on the tough scene scale for me.

As for Azmorgon, sometimes you need as ass of a character to make the others look better. I think his attitude made me like Mulldoos a lot more. Azmorgon is just fun to hate and also poke fun of because none of his jokes make sense.

I figured even if readers grew to like some/most of the Jackals, there had to be one irredeemable asshole in the company.

Agreed Jenna. It did make Mulldoos more likeable. (view spoiler)

I never mentioned my final thoughts. Overall this series is wonderful. I really loved the fact that our POV character is Arki and I found him a unique character to portray the story through. I loved that we had strong female characters and how each character added to the story. Whether or not they made it out alive. I found the conclusion very satisfying as a reader and it really made sense to the overall story arc of the characters. I'm really looking forward to reading more by Jeff in the future.

I definitely agree.
Thanks for joining us Jeff!

Thanks again!

Hi Jeff! Will the next series be a trilogy as well?

Hi Samir. It will at least be a trilogy, and possibly a longer series. Still mulling over options and just started writing the dreaded synopsis for what happens after book 1. The series is a fusion of urban fantasy-ish elements (though no vampires or werewolves!) and science-fiction (though not set deep in the future). Four main POV characters (two male; two female), a lot of snark and sarcasm, and tons of action.

I love the sound of that already! I'm a big fan of your writing, Bloodsounder's Arc is one of my favorite series and i plan to re-read it and hopefully write better reviews for it because I wasn't very good at writing them at that time. Sorry, I digressed a bit. I'm very excited about your new series and I shall eagerly await news about the release date.

You rock. I'm really glad Bloodsounder worked well for you. Grimoire Zero isn't fluffy unicorns farting rainbows--there are still some dark things that happen, and it would be rated R if it was a movie--but it has more humor than BA (well, *I* think I'm funny), is a bit zanier, and it moves a lot faster. Plus, I love the characters. L-O-V-E.
It definitely has a different tone and feel, and it's a pretty big departure from the BA world, but the beta readers seemed to dig it, and I feel good overall, so here's hoping it takes flight.

I love sarcasm in your novels, it was one of Cpt. Killcoin's trademarks and I loved him for it so I'm pretty sure I'll dig the new characters. Thank you so much for the information and I wish you good luck with the pitching and finding a home for it. Can't wait to read it!

Braylar? Sarcastic? What the what??
He was a ton of fun to write. No matter what series I jump into, or how many characters I ultimately pen, that biting bastard will always be one of my favorites.
Wow I missed a lot happening in this thread! The new series sounds super exciting - I can't wait to read it.
I love urban fantasy. Looking forward to the new book when it comes out.
Jeff did you know with Bloodsounder's Arc that it was always going to be a trilogy?

Thanks, Jenna! Glad you like the sound of it.

Jeff did you know with Bloodsounder's Arc that it was always going to be a trilogy?"
Yeah, I always planned three or four books for Bloodsounder's Arc.
UF and Sci fi are both outside my wheelhouse but I wanted to see if I could pull it off.

I'm letting you know :D

Well..... it seemed unlikely.
Jeff, it was an awesome story arc. (view spoiler)[ I could completely see Soffjian being involved by not Skeelana. I really thought Skeelana had double crossed everyone. I did like that Arki put the final knife in her. (view spoiler)[ (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]
