But, of course, the whole point of this review is that this book has not a teensy tiny bit of LGBT content. I am not reviewing it anywhere else but here in the Backlot forum.
Because for all her faffing about with Dumbledore being gay, JK Rowling couldn't even manage to sneak in a gay character in this book. I had my hopes, when it turns out Draco Malfoy's son Scorpio become Harry Potter's son Albus's best friend--indeed only friend.
I knew it would be too much to hope that these boys would be somethng more to each other than friends, and yet, in the end, I had held out hope that perhaps Scorpio, who is sweet and kind and nerdy, might be a boy who didn't fancy girls; and Albus would be a good friend and let him know it was all right.
Alas, the theater, like Hollywood and all the entertainment professions, for all the gay people who fill them with talent and their own dreams, is as homophobic as anything when it comes to seeking profits and not offending the audience--at least in this way.
JK Rowling is a great lady. She gives vast sums away, unlike many of her peers. But one wishes she could have given us this.
