Describe yourself as a reader. Things to consider:
o What do you like/dislike about reading? Why?
o What things do you enjoy reading?
o Do you enjoy fiction or non-fiction? Why?
o When/Where do you read?

As part of your first post, make sure to place ten books in your "want to read" or "have read" bookshelves.

As a reader, my habits have changed from my teenage years to now. Graduate school killed my reading habits as I often had upwards of 100-200 pages of reading every few days. As a high school teacher, I have started to read more teen fiction again, rekindling my passion for reading. I always feel energized to focus or adapt my teaching as I read professional texts on teaching and English. This year, I plan to do a book talk for the class every day to show you the books that are new and exciting. I hope that I will help you love reading. Lately, I have found a passion for fantasy or anything related to fairy tales. I generally enjoy fiction but have also found a new interest in non-fiction as it relates to biographies of world changers and history that I know the bare bones about. I like to read before I go to sleep and in a comfy chair or couch.

My goal for this school year is to read one professional book and two independent books of choice a week.

Zei Uwadia | 3 comments I have always enjoyed reading because there's so many different things you can gain from books, they can entertain you or educate you etc. I mostly like reading fiction books because the outcomes and possibilities of them are endless. I usually read during the daytime when I'm more imaginative so I can create images of the book in my mind and make it more enjoyable.

Dylan | 2 comments I'm honestly not a reader. I kind of enjoy reading though when I get into the right book. I feel like i always rush myself into finding a book and i never have time to really think about what i want. With me having sports its real challenging to read books unless its at school. At home its way to hard to focus on a book unless its late at night because I have 4 little sisters and it challenging to focus. I'd like to get back to reading at least every other day. I feel like I haven't even read a book front to back since 6th grade and its kind of sad to be honest.

Zoey Uhrig | 6 comments My habits for reading have dramatically changed since middle and elementary school. I used to read at least 3 books a week, sometimes i could get up to 6 or 7 a week. In the past 2 months however my reading habits have severely dropped. I now read close to 1 book every 2 weeks due to my other interests, such as cooking, writing, and listening to music have become more of a priority. I would like to start reading again, fantasy, teen fiction, and young adult fiction are my favorite subject to read from. One of my favorite authors is Jennifer Estep, she wrote the Frost series which includes 6 books.
My reading goal for this school year is 35 books.

Perla | 3 comments Generally my reading isn't as strong as i would like it to be. Reading is not my preferred habit, I much rather write than read. Even though i typically don't find my self reading a book everyday i do enjoy reading fairy tales and fiction books such as "The Fault in Our Stars and Gone girl. Even though I don't enjoy reading now I hope that in the future my passion for reading grows.

Dylan R. | 2 comments In elementary school I really enjoyed reading, but as the books became longer and the words became harder, I started to lose interest. I went from reading everyday to only reading once or twice a week. When I started reading less, I started reading different things. I used to like reading funny and cartoon-like books. Now i like to read sports, adventure, and fictional books. I usually read these books after my football practice, but i only have about 30 minutes to a hour left of free time by the time i eat, shower, and finish homework.

Zach L. Loiacono | 3 comments I like reading sometimes. It helps me chill out, but some books aren't very good and you already wasted your time trying them. I like to read football books and some adventure and horror books. I like fiction more than non fiction because non fiction gets kind of boring to me and with fiction anything can happen. Sometimes I read before I sleep because it helps. I should definitely read more and Ill try to.

Gabi Ehss | 4 comments My reading habits lately have been for the most part nonexistent. As a kid in elementary school I loved reading and every night before bed I'd read a chapter from a novel. In middle school up until the current date I've read only what I have to for school. When I do rarely read a book for fun, I usually read the first two chapters and don't pick up again for a long time and then I want to pick back up where I left off but I forgot everything that happened so I have to reread. I do enjoy reading but never feel the desire to do it when not forced. If I was someone who recreational read a lot, I would read horror and mystery books mostly. I like a lot of other genres too such as fantasy or romance. The types of literature I am most interested in are the stories that make you consider the metaphors and hidden meanings in the text. I hope to start reading more for recreation. My goal for the end of the school year it to read at least 10 books.

Romeo | 3 comments I am the type of reader that feels like they are in the book with the other characters. I like the adventure and mystery in books. My least favorite part of reading is when your reading a really good book and you are at the end of it. The types of books I enjoy reading are mostly books about sports or comedy. I usually read more fiction books then nonfiction. I read that more because it usually is a part of a series of books and the adventure is longer. When I read it is most likely on my bed a couple of hours before I go to bed.

I agree that writing is more fun than reading. The Fault in Our Stars is a really good book, you should try reading some of the other books by that author, it might help your passion for reading.

Bayan | 5 comments When I read, I tend to take longer than most of the students in my gifted class. I have the ability to read very quickly, but choose to read slowly. If I don't read slowly, my thoughts tend to stray and I must start the section over. I do not have a specific genre I enjoy reading. Most of the books I read are for assignments. At home I have many other tasks such as babysitting, sports, color guard, homework, school activities and more, so I don't have much free time to read. I enjoy reading both fiction and non-fiction books. For me, non-fiction books must have a story-line rather than listed facts.

Zach P. Perrault | 4 comments My favorite types of books to read are books that are humorous because there are times that I need to read something that will change the way I feel. Also I will read books that are mysteries and fictional books. I definitely like reading because it calms me down and most of the time the book is so intriguing that I cant stop reading even if it's time for dinner. I have to read in a quiet place or else I can't concentrate an what I'm reading.

I have never enjoyed reading but i agree with you; Books are a great resource for all kinds of subjects and also entertainment. I also enjoy fiction books and being able to create an image and imagine whats going on in the book as if it was in real life.

I agree that in this age now that there are so many other things to occupy our time, reading is less of a priority. Like you, I enjoy reading but my greater interests are what I choose to fill my free time with.

I feel the same way bro. Like i don't enjoy reading a lot especially when you don't get a good book and you waste your time. I just feel like there is so many other things to do in my spare time.

I'm glad you are interested in books, if you ever do want to read for fun again I would recommend a few titles to you. Some of them would be The Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Cinder.

You should read more even if it gets hard because then you will learn new words and then you'll get better at it. I agree that the words are hard but it will help improve your knowledge. You can always get up earlier and read before school.

I completely understand how life gets in the way of reading. Though I enjoy reading i really only do it for school anymore. We should do more recreational reading though.

I also used to read a lot in elementary school and lost interest as I got older, but I did like the books with bigger words like Harry Potter. My problem was like yours, other things occupied my time and I didn't have the free space to read, I do other recreational things that I enjoy more than reading.

I kind of feel the same way when I'm reading a book. If a book isn't like that it's hard for me to read it. I also hate when I'm about to finish a book. It is even worse at the end of a series.

I think it is wonderful that you enjoy reading. I also think it is great that you can find time at home to read and enjoy the books you desire. I like that you read during the day so that you can make books more enjoyable for yourself. I myself will try harder to create pictures in my mind as I read so that my books can also be more interesting.
