3) I finally discovered that I enjoy cooking at 41 when my step-son with special dietary needs moved in. A happy and healthy young man (and family) are the future.

Congrats on your baby Emm!!!
I basically learned English watching British TV shows, so I speak English with a British accent, people often find it weird. Love your profile picture by the way ;) (Fire, exclamation point, Fire, exclamation point... hahaha)

1. I was a vegetarian for seven years. This was a long time ago (I was 16 when I started), long before it was 'easy' to be one - there weren't a lot of options, particularly at restaurants, the Internet didn't really exist for idea & information. Consequently I didn't really know how to balance my diet very well and wasn't very healthy, so I started eating meat again. Even now, almost twenty years later, I still don't eat a lot of meat. I suspect my little Spider will at some point flirt with vegetarianism, as she's already very dismayed at the fact that animals have to die so we can eat them. She's a sensitive soul.
2. It took me four years and over $25,000 to conceive my daughter. It was (until last year) the darkest time of my life. I would have loved a second child, but I'm grateful every single day for my girl.
3. I suffered from quite severe depression, which in retrospect I think I've had my whole life, started getting back when I was going through IVF, and then really set in about 18 months after the birth of my daughter. It got bad. I'm doing much better now.
4. I'm from Australia, but have lived in Switzerland since January 2013. Until I was 33, I had never left Australia, and never really had the travel bug - I think this was mostly a self-preservation thing, as the cost of travelling overseas from Australia can be prohibitive. Now, seven years later, I (and my seven year old daughter!) have been to thirteen other countries, and I want to SEE THEM ALL!
5. I'm left-handed and an only child.
 1. I speak almost exclusively in movie/tv show/book quotes and song lyrics, and get disappointed when people don't know/understand what I'm referencing.

3. I'm the youngest of three girls and I'm incredibly close to my sisters and my parents.
4. I have an awesome nephew and in just over a week I'm going to have another one!
5. My favourite food in the entire world is pasta/spaghetti and I eat a ridiculous and unhealthy amount of it.

 1. I really love my name. It's Katie and it's not short for anything, which I think makes me special. A few years before I met my husband, I thought, "If I had to choose a new last name for myself, I think I would choose Brown. Katie Brown sounds good together. Nobody will mispronounce or misspell it. And brown is my favorite color." Enter my husband, Dave. Guess what his last name is? No, I didn't marry him just because I wanted my last name to be Brown, but I'm happy with how it worked out.

No, I didn't marry him just because I wanted my last name to be Brown, but I'm happy with how it worked out.2. Speaking of my husband, he went in for our first kiss while we were watching Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince during the scene when Harry and Ginny kiss. I rebuffed him saying, "You can't kiss me just because they're kissing in a movie!"
3. I went 10 years without eating chocolate as an exercise in self control. I adore chocolate, and I wasn't good at moderation, so I decided to cut it out entirely. Then I just kept not eating it to see how long I could go. It's been almost 2 years since I started eating it again, and man, brownies are delicious.
4. I used to hate animals, not like in a mean way, I just didn't like them or want to be near them. Dave is an animal lover, so we now have a cat and a dog (I'm a nice wife). I now adore animals. I will cry over any sort of sentimental animal video on the internet.
5. I tend to be a snob about things that I consider "too popular." I'm usually wrong about such things. For example, I didn't finish the Harry Potter series until last year because everyone was too into it and I wasn't going to follow the trend. I'd vowed never to read it. (I issued a public apology on social media after I finished for being such a snob about it for all these years because we all know how completely wrong I was.) Another example: I didn't want to see Les Miserables in London because people who liked that musical were just too fanatical about it. (My friends convinced me to see it anyway and I loved it immediately.) I am happy to be wrong about such things and should maybe reconsider my hipster ways.
 1. I have two pets, a dog and a cat.

3. My favorite color is sky blue.

It's gross to me, tendons and ligaments and all that stuff.I'm in the same boat as Aglaea and Joann where I really just love planning out all the books that fit into my reading challenges. And Sophie, don't get me started on my spreadsheet of many, many tabs. I am up there with you & my spreadsheet may even have more than 17 tabs. I don't know. I don't want to know.
I'm curious about the spreadsheets you ladies are talking about......??

I also use google doc, but in a really organized manner (at least for me) with a lot of tabs.
 1. I succeeded to keep my true name on Facebook only for 24h, then I rushed to change it to my pseudonym.
      1. I succeeded to keep my true name on Facebook only for 24h, then I rushed to change it to my pseudonym.2. The only time I smoked was when I was 3 years old.

Congrats, Emm!
 1. I love my food to be piping hot (stove hot-not spicy hot), but my drinks the colder the better.
      1. I love my food to be piping hot (stove hot-not spicy hot), but my drinks the colder the better.2. I didn't speak until well after the age of 3. I had to be taught by a speech therapist and as a result I don't sound like I'm from where I'm from. I have a slight accent that is not anything like the local one.

4. I am obsessed with mac and cheese. I eat it at least 4 times a week.
5. I love watching true crime shows. My husband is always making fun of me for it. I find them interesting!
I am kind of feeling that there are lots of facts about me but rather few interesting ones... so maybe an odd combo of facts...
I am kind of feeling that there are lots of facts about me but rather few interesting ones... so maybe an odd combo of facts...1. I am a jack-of-all-trades but master of none when it comes to interests. I love to learn something about everything but rarely go deep. This does not work so well in America where most people are really into their passions but tend to know not much of most other things - I often feel that either people think that I know way more than them about something, or way too little.
2. I am originally from Hungary but came to the United States when I got married to my American husband. Nowadays I pretty much only read (and talk) in English, although I do plan to revisit some of my childhood favorites in Hungarian.
3. I often feel caught between worlds - although I now mostly identify as American, I still observe things from an outsider's point of view, and compare cultures. The being interested in many things is one of those European traits, I think. A lot of my tastes are influenced by Eastern European moody sensitivities but I also like American practicality.
4. I am a software developer. I used to program an internet game once.
5, I have two teenage daughters and two bunnies. They are all adorable :)
