SOLVED. Crazy scientist/ experimental creatures/ island. [s]

Ok so I read this book about 5 years ago in my freshmen year. What I can remember is this man goes to an island for a meeting maybe with a scientist and this scientist did tests on people and maybe the help that he had at his home and is the experiment went wrong he let the now animal/creatur/beast go into the island. The man figures this out and tries to get off the island and sees all these creatures. I'm not sure if this will help but I hope it does.

It was for school and it seemed like it was an old book. I'm sorry I don't remember the cover or author
