Jennifer (JenIsNotaBookSnob) (jenisnotabooksnob) | 2 comments I'm just curious, I signed up to NetGalley last night and have a couple books I'm reading from them. It looks like one of them has a limited amount of time, 52 days. I was reading it using Adobe Digital Editions. Do they all have limited amounts of time to read them before they disappear or do they vary?

The books are yours to keep after you download them.

Teresa (teresaoh) I'm a NetGalley learner as yet, but I think if you have a Kindle and can download books to that they are on it until you physically delete them yourself, otherwise if you use Adobe Digital Editions they will disappear when they reach their archive date which is different for each book.

That's not true. The epubs/pdfs expire and disappear after a certain time. If the book has not yet been archived, you can download it again, and it will expire again after the same amount of time, 52 days in this case. Once it has been archived, you can not download it again and once it's expired, you will not be able to access it again.

Only if you use the Kindle edition will it never expire and will it be yours to keep after sending it to your Kindle.

Penmouse | 24 comments If the book is available in Kindle format you get to keep the book. If you download the book to the Bluefire Reader, and there is a time limit, the book will disappear.

I found that out the hard way.

They expire in Adobe but even if you don't have a Kindle, if you have a device (other than a PC or laptop), you can use the Kindle app and keep them forever. An iPad or tablet or phone - they all work.

NetGalley books are classified as "docs" by Amazon and show up there in your account. You can't "deliver" (or forward) docs to a Kindle for PC, but you can to any of the devices you register. And they stay in your Kindle cloud forever.

Jennifer (JenIsNotaBookSnob) (jenisnotabooksnob) | 2 comments Ah, okay. Unfortunately there's only two on my shelf that have the send to Kindle option and they came through pretty poorly formatted and were unreadable like that. Oh well, darn it!

Thank you!

I have a Kindle. I apologize. I thought that everyone kept their books. I guess I learn something every day.

Elke (misspider) Sometimes, but rarely, they offer Adobe versions without a time limit. I have one or two books stored in Bluefire that show no expiration date.

Robin (ukamerican) | 38 comments Yeah, I suppose it's up to the publisher whether to put an expiration on it or not, and for how long.

Is this 52 days for NetGalley or Adobe Digital Editions? I just download NetGalley books as soon as I'm approved for them— although I very occasionally missed a title which was archived by the publishers. I do a lot of reviews and blog events ("blog tours"). Some publshers I review regularly for opened up the title again for me to redownload if missed but very few.

Katherine Hayward Pérez | 7 comments NetGalley told me that their files are personal documents and not compatible with the PC/Mac Kindle download (app).

As I review books so often and several per week most weeks, I have been thinking about this a lot in my decision to buy either a new iPad or a Macbook Air.

And now there's the NetGalley Shelf app as well as the Kindle app for iPad whereas all I think is the option for NetGalley books on a Mac is Adobe Digital Editions.

How well does Adobe Digital Editions work with NetGalley files compared to the IPad Kindle app? I like that I can keep my Kindle files forever.

Many of my books are text only and I downloaded some with the Aldiko book app but images were spread over 2 pages, or distorted/cut in half if large. Books expire here too.
