Finding Jake is a book about a school shooting but with a twist. The story doesn't focus on the victims or the main shooter, but a teenager who plays an important part in the events. What the town can't decide is whether or not Jake is a victim or a perpetrator.
Simon and Rachel are living a nice, suburban life in Wilmington, DE. Simon stays home and raises their two children (Jake and Laney) and Rachel works as a high-powered lawyer. This book goes back and forth between Jake's perspective and Rachel's. It seems as if Jake is blaming some of his parenting skills on what happened to Jake.
We don't really know what happened with Jake until the end. There is a shooting at Jake's school; we know there are 13 victims and the shooter shot himself, but Jake is missing. This is just a really sad book and one with a different perspective on a real tragedy. I've never read anything like it.
