I checked 3 people have narrated the series and this book's narrator is the worst! Humphh

Yes she does sound shrill! Not a good voice for Sam. I wish I had picked up the book while I had the choice!

And, I can hardly believe Sam just went along with Josh and took him home. She had nothing but his say-so to go on. Really?

That was surprising! It was so out of character for her.

It was! I'm thinking the entire way Sam's dealing with this case is different. Of course, getting involved when she shouldn't is normal, but the way she's just going along with what he says is unusual.
I'm a little over 1/3 through and have to go to bed. But, Josh is strange. I can't get a good feel for him at all. His daddy sounds like a real piece of work, too.
The situation with Nick was pretty scary. I'd be freaked out in that same situation. And now Sam's mom is part of he story as well. There is waaaaaay too much going on (as usual) in this book.
What did you think of the scene with Gonzo?

"
The scene where he was drinking and the whiskey bottle was thrown on the coffee table?
Hmmm Well I was expecting him to be messed up after Arnold's death but what he said to Christina was really hurtful. Still it was believable. People say things in their grief that they don't really mean. I hope he doesn't go any lower than he already has.

I'm at about to start chapter 8 and you're right! There is waay too much going in this book.
I don't trust Josh. I think he's hiding something or there's more behind this whole thing that Josh seeing a resemblance in the photo and coming to Sam.

That was a really low moment. As you say, it was realistic, especially coupled with alcohol.

And there were some weird relationships in this one. I was not at all surprised by who was the killer, but the back story took me by surprise. I mean WOW (view spoiler)
I thought the situation with Gonzo was handled well. It didn't dominate, but was woven into the story in multiple ways. And his process was realistic as well. It was a horrible situation.
And it looks like Sam's mom will be included in future books. That will be interesting.

I also liked that Sam ended up admitting she'd made mistake by bringing Josh home.

I so agree about Avery. I thought we were past that, so having it show up again was a drag. And, it was nice that Sam admitted that she shouldn't have brought a stranger into her home just because its safe from outside forces. That seemed like the type of act that she would criticize civilians for.

I was really surprised about this Avery stuff. I thought we were past that already and it made me feel his relationship with Tinkerbell is shaky.

"
I really hope that's over now! I don't want to see anymore of the stuff in the future books.

LOL your first spoiler! (view spoiler)
I really liked how Gonzo's story progressed. It was very realistic and emotional.

Lara, it's almost like the author is keeping that (view spoiler) If that's the case I'm gonna be one pissed off reader.

Jonetta, I didn't realize the author said that. If that's so then stop writing that into the storyline. Enough!
Every family has its secrets…
As the first anniversary of her marriage to Vice President Nick Cappuano approaches, Lieutenant Sam Holland is dreaming of Bora Bora—sun, sand and a desperately needed break from the DC grind. But real life has a way of intervening, and Sam soon finds herself taking on one of the most perplexing cases of her career.
Government worker Josh Hamilton begs Sam to investigate his shocking claim that his parents stole him from another family thirty years ago. More complicated still, his "father" is none other than the FBI director. When a member of Josh's family is brutally murdered, Sam begins to question how deep this cover-up goes. Is it possible the revered director was part of a baby-napping ring and that others involved are also targets?
With a killer intent on deadly revenge and her team still reeling from a devastating loss, Sam's plate is full—and when Nick and their son, Scotty, take ill, is her dream of a tropical anniversary celebration in peril too?
