If anyone comes across a romance-y writing contest...

Share, pretty please?

Hmm. Maybe stuff like the URL, deadline, and word count? I've never entered a contest so I dunno haha!

Hugs,
Ann

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) Yes! A contest....wait. Someone post a contest.

Oh, gawd! That wasn't clear at all hahaha! Lemme think of a better thread title. Suggestions?

message 4: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Siegrist (amandasiegrist) What? It was clear. What are you talking about? I want someone to post a contest now so I can enter:)

Oh, haha! Good!! I thought I was clear as mud...like usual... ^_^

Jane Blythe I don't know details about deadlines etc, but I'm a member of Romance Writers of Australia, and they have various competitions, as well as their yearly conference (which was this weekend), and other opportunities to get to know and connect with other romance writers, so I am assuming that Romance Writers of America is similar and would have competitions. Don't know of anything else specifically romancey, but I assume some competitions would have a romance category

I meant to look into NERFA. I hope I don't forget.

And I didn't, but I saw lots on Twitter. Congrats to anyone who made it in /Golden Heart/RITA. (And a late congrats, Abigail!)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) | 118 comments Late indeed! Thanks, Amanda. The conference that year was in Orlando, and it's there this year, too. Fun memories. (And I'm going, since it's in my backyard.)

message 17: by Kristina (new)

Kristina (kristinaadams) | 46 comments I don't know of any specific romance writing competitions (it's my goal to enter more writing competitions this year, but book 2 is taking up all my time), but someone I know runs a site called Cathy's Comps and Calls. It lists free-to-enter writing competitions of all genres and is updated on the 1st of every month. It's a really useful resource. I can't even imagine how long it must take her to put it together.

Jane Blythe I was on Facebook yesterday and came across a post for a flash fiction competition, even though its not a romance one I thought since we do flash fiction someone might be interested. I believe the summer one is now open for registration, there is an entry fee, and I've never entered this competition before so I don't know anything about it other than what it said in the post, but here is the link if anyone is interested

Kate Forest | 26 comments These awards aren't open now, but they're both reader/bookseller contests which I think carry some oomph because they are not judged by authors, but by the audience you're aiming for.

Jane Blythe Came across this post in a very good Facebook, I entered two of my books, its a contest based on your cover and blurb

Keyword: Romance Writers' Contest
The Las Vegas Romance Writers sponsor a contest exclusively for independent romance writers. The details are below if anyone is interested.
Fee: $15
Deadline: June 1, 2017
Eligibility: The contest judges the covers and back cover copies of books and novellas that were independently published (either electronically or in print) in the United States for the first time prior to April 30, 2017.
Entry: Entry form, the book’s cover, the text of the back cover copy, and the entrance fee. Electronic entries only.
Categories: Contemporary, Historical, Erotic, Inspirational, Paranormal, Suspense, Young Adult, New Adult, Novella, Sci-Fi Fantasy and Western (Contemporary or Historical).
Judges: All the entries will be judged by book club members who are avid readers. Every effort will be made to use book clubs that are genre-specific.
Final Judges: The finalists will be judged by agents experienced in working with indie authors. Past agent judges have expressed interest in representing one or more of our finalists. The Best of the Best will be selected by our first-round book club judges from the 11 category winners.
Top Prize: The winners will be announced at the Las Vegas Valley Book Festival and featured in an advertisement in the RWR. The finalists will be listed on the LVRW website and the winners’ covers and back cover copy will be published on LVRW’s website once they are announced. Winners and finalists will also receive an electronic badge that can be placed on book covers, websites, or anywhere the winner deems appropriate, that announces the first place win.
