25.1. - Sandy's Task: Folk Tales and Music.

This is a two book task.
Read one Book 1 and one Book 2.

No books with the main page genre Childrens or Kids may be used for this task. Your two books combined must have a total of at least 500 pages.

Book 1: While we often think of folk art in terms of physical, tangible art, fairy tales and folk tales are also a form of folk art.
Read a book from one of the following lists: Mythology/Folklore
or Stories for Adults Who Love Fairy Tales
Required: State the list and the page.

Book 2 - Folk music is another intangible form of folk art.
Read a book, the title/subtitle of which contains a word of at least 4 letters from a song title listed on Folk Alley’s 100 Most Essential Folk Songs. 100 Most Essential Folk Songs.
Words must match exactly. No variations.
Required: State the song.

ah, well, this will give you the opportunity to try something new.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3070 comments no worries, there are very few fairy tales i don't like.

Kim | 764 comments For book two, is it a word from the song title or can it come from the lyrics?

Thank you.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) | 3070 comments I thought it was from the song titles

Trish (trishhartuk) | 3903 comments Quick question on option one. For the books on the mythology list, with "unknown" as an author, presumably we can use any translation? For example Beowulf is listed with the Seamus Heaney version, but there are many others, including one by JRR Tolkien, which I've been meaning to get.

Cheers.

Jonquil From time to time, I shyly acknowledge that I have this bohemian, vegetarian, bread-baking, flowers-in-my-hair thing going on...but I'm speechless that I own at least one version of every one of those folk songs...on vinyl.

Lisa Hickman (lbhick) | 1726 comments The Outlander Series (1-7) is on the Stories for Adults Who Love Fairy Tales list. Is it okay to read one of the books in the series to satisfy requirements? I was considering reading #5 in the series.

Sorry, no. This is the same sort of situation as when a box set appears on a list - you can't just use one book from the set, or, in this case, from the series. See the FAQs

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 990 comments I have The Complete Folk & Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm - will this work instead of the one on the list The Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales as noted on the list?

sorry, no, these are not just 2 editions of the same book - for one thing, one book is twice as long as the other.
