iPhone sorting by year pub not working

I have a shelf called "future releases" and its books not out yet. When I sort this by "year pub" there is a mixture of 2016 and 2016. I would expect the 2106 all first and then 2017.

I does not appear to be edition date since these are unreleased books most have only 1 date/edition.

The app should visually show me the proper sort order for year just has it does by title, author etc
