Were you aware of the history of the Hope blue diamond?

No, I wasn't. It's interesting to know that it's whereabouts were actually unaccounted for for awhile during the time period of this story. And the fact that it's now fairly well acknowledged to be part of the original French crown jewels.

I didn't know about it either although the name Hope Diamond seemed to ring a few small bells! It was very interesting.

I think I saw the Hope Diamond in the Smithsonian (?) many years ago, but I had no idea of its connection with the French crown jewels. I heard the legend that whoever possessed it through history had bad luck....as if there was a curse attached to it!

I'd heard the exact same thing, Charlene. I also didn't know about the French connection.

I had heard about it, but didn't know any of its history. I always get confused between the Hope Diamond and the Kohinoor Diamond, which is also supposedly cursed.

No, but it is something to look into further.

I lived in Baltimore and took trips to the Smithsonian Institute almost every year with school. The Hope diamond exhibition was one of my favorites. I love the mystery and curse surrounding it.
