I can't help but wonder what society must think. They know that she was Sebastian's mistress and that the two broke ties about a year ago. Now, she spends time with Hendon (there's been mention of them taking walks/carriage rides) so it must send tongues wagging.
I hadn't thought about that aspect, Veronica. At some point, he's going to develop stronger feelings about his daughter, maybe to the point where he'd acknowledge her but then that would really create a scandal given everyone would think her past relationship with Sebastian was incestuous.
Jonetta wrote: "he'd acknowledge her but then that would really create a scandal given everyone would think her past relationship with Sebastian was incestuous. ."Any acknowledgement of Kat on Hendon's part would put the succession to the earldom in question whether because people would suspect Sebastian of incest or that he isn't the earl's biological son. Consequently, he will never do it.
I think that Hendon approached Sebastian because he cares about Kat and wants her to be safe and happy.
Hendon may be trying to make up for lost time with Kat. I think he did care about her mother and maybe feels obligated to step in as a father. But I also think it provided him with a reason to speak to Sebastian.
He is trying to make amends to Kat. I think there is a combination of mixed feelings for Hendon. He regrets how things ended with his mistress, Kat's mother. He regrets the pain he caused the daughter of the woman he loved, apparently more than his wife. He regrets his betrayal of the man he loves as his son. Saying all that, I believe Kat is using Hendon.
