The Fireman by Joe Hill buddy read (spoiler warning)

Its also interesting that its from a woman perspective. Not read a lot Armageddon scenarios from a female point of view.... although Brian keene did female characters in the Rising series. So there are some, but not many.... unless someone can correct me ?

Of course Kaisersoze, welcome to our buddy read for The Fireman. I add your name. Be nice to do another buddy together as our last one was fun, Swan Song !
Sorry guys for the delay response, had a busy day together, but really am glad to be reading this book as a buddy read.

I first discovered him when I spotted Heart-shaped Box on the horror shelf in Waterstones, and had no idea he was King's son. That book was quite good, a really good idea, but the execution wasn't great. The original version of my avatar picture has moving scribbles over his eyes, Craddock style. The version of him in my head is terrifying.
Horns was a vast improvement, an excellent story.
Then it went all downhill with NOS4R2 (as it's called over here in the UK). I was massively disappointed with that book. Not scary at all, and pretty dull.
So, The Fireman will be the decider on whether I continue to buy his books when they're first released (like I do with his dad) or whether I wait for the library copy, or buy it paperback.

This will be my second book of joe hill. I have read Horns, which i enjoyed a lot. Got his other books on my kindle, just not read them yet.

So far I am liking the book very much. Like my buddy Mehmet I am a slow reader. I enjoyed Heart Shaped Box, Horns, NOS4A2, Locke & Key and most of his 20th Century Ghost Short Stories.
It isn't a surprise to me that Fireman is as good as the rest of his books. All of his work has a different feel and I enjoy how it never feels like a rehash of a previous story he worked on. I never go in expecting horror with Joe Hill despite some of his work being creepy in different kinds of ways. Fireman especially doesn't feel like a horror story, it feels more like a post apocalyptic fantasy. Though I only reached 200 pages and the story can change at any moment.
I wouldn't surprise me if I don't finish the book until November but I will try to keep up with everyone, It is a fun ride.

Not horror at all but interesting

That said, I think of him as more a fantasy author than a horror one. And apocalyptic seems to describe The Fireman. Though I'm only 40 pages into my 748 page volume.

End of the world books are everywhere these days, and I like the different angle this one is taking. I'm really happy that the dead stay dead haha.
The writing is really good, and it would be so easy to speed through this book, but I want to keep reading slowly and taking things in.
Hill has painted a good picture of Harper and Jakob so far. I feel like I can actually believe that these two are a couple, not just two people who live together.
And I completely forgot about Locke & Key Kaiseroze! A fantastic series, and gorgeous artwork.

I don't like his father's writing but I like his

I think the first time I possibly heard it on a US show was on Buffy, as Spike was British.

I got roughly 200 pages left.
I think I liked Horns better but Joe Hill still managed to impress me with this one.

Personally I think I might like NOS4A2 a little bit better. But boy is it cutting it close, this is definitely going to be one of my favorite post apocalyptic stories. I even got a little teary eyed near the end.....

There is a part which was too "romance novel-like" for my taste but still the book is superb!

(view spoiler) I have been pregnant and that is not the way! (view spoiler) That was the only thing that bothered me.

I think this is tied with my favorite Joe Hill Book. The last end of the book blew me away and it reminded me of what I loved so much about Locke & Key

It is ok buddy. I never finished our Swan Song buddy read. It gives me time to go back and read it. I really liked that book but there was not enough time to keep up with everyone.
Take your time and enjoy the book. No need to rush.

I'm sure the other guys will still read our posts and comment!
