Quick question: is this book club only going to run through 2016 or will it continue indefinitely? Hoping for the latter :)

Me too! I'm still hoping that it will run until the very end. Because there's a lot of fun learnings and amazing ideas here from different persons perspective that needs to be discuss and emphasize. And I think this book club really helps! It's awesome!
Just popping in to say that right in the early days when I joined, I had assumed that this would be a 2016 thing only. Then, as Kodak said, we learned more about it and it was never even discussed that this was an ongoing thing. :)
Thanks for the quick reply! I never really thought about it until a few days ago, and I just had to ask. Great answer though! Keep up the good work and have a lovely weekend :)

I think part of the reason we've had this question a number of times is because not long after Our Shared Shelf began, Emma announced her year-long hiatus from acting, so people seemed to connect the two. Hopefully this club will be around for a good long while. As we know, there is not shortage of relevant books, and more people getting involved by the day!
I hope forever, or until its need is fulfilled, if one could say so(, although I highly doubt that the need will ever vanish).A few moments ago I was watching how many posts I've written in here, it's 410, which are quite a few, aren't they? OurSharedShelf has become a part of my life, and I would highly miss it, if it were ever closed. I await the new book announciations with great interest, and can't wait to order them and wait for them to be read. Right now I'm waiting for the September/October book, and I am waiting with jumpiness for the book to be able to fetch it. (Should be the day after tomorrow.)
I tell many people I meet about OSS, and how cool and how teaching it is, because I think everybody should be a part of it. Due to my voluntary social year (10 months) I have changed my wish what I want to study. I've enrolled for Sociology and the discussions and book choices here only made it more clear for me, that I want to study Sociology.
So you see, I would be really sad if this isn't going on forever. I need it, we need it.
ALWAYS (Someone had to say it please excuse my fanboy moment it is Christmas after all)
It will be there until we have gender equality.

And even longer to always remind future generations that gender equality isn't a given, but that generations of women (and men) have dedicated their life to it.
With the current direction, both politically and economically, that women's equality is heading with the current elections and political winds: There should be more clubs and direct action and involvement exponentially.
Indefinately. Forums tend to have a lifespan of decades. As long as there are members around who are willing to participate and run them.

I hope it all works out for you!! Good luck in your future studies. :)

Kelly, sociology is so GREAT! I mean, in my opinion it's the perfect thing to study if you're a feminist, and I can't wait to read all the great authors.
It's the thing to do really, oh, I learned so much! And OSS helped me as an example from time to time:)
there are forums where people always fight each other and it still functions there are like 10 people

well!guess what, we live in a world where flaws and imperfections are a part and parcel.so we can rest be assured that no matter how much we try,all can never be well.because after all, living needs it's reasons right.so i guess it'll go on indefinitely till the end of our days and hopefully "FOREVERMORE"
;)
I would like it if the answer were 'always' and 'until the very end'. But if it does end, I hope that I can be able to say 'all was well'.'The ones that love us never really leave us. You can always find them in here'.
Once a Harry Potter fan, always a Harry Potter fan. My childhood could not be complete without it. :)
I think it'll last almost forever, because there'll always be people interested in feminism. I also think the amount of feminist will increase with the time, so this club will always have members.

Well, the reason why I think it'll last almost forever is that I'm 16 and a lot of my friends (boys and girls) are feminists. And I have hope in the new generations. I think we're realising that there are a lot of things that must change and we believe we can change it. And lots of us, we believe in equality. And seeing how big this group is and how many people of my age are feminists, it gives me faith. Faith that we will achieve equality.

What's the March/April 2018 book selection? I keep checking back but there havent been any announcements yet.
I have been wondering that too, where is our March/April book? It seems like it should be announced by now.
Adam wrote: "Meelie:Couldn't Watson have an assistant and/or publicist do the announcement?"
Why would she need someone else to do it?
We can be around as long as we want, we're not obliged to be here...
I think the fact that Emma does the announcements is super important for OSS. I love to read her explanation of why she picked that book, why she finds it important. Wouldn't feel the same with a PR! (although Meelie you would for sure do a super fine job!)

OSS will be around as long as there are people who will be around.

I agree 100%. I'd rather wait for Emma to have the time to post her choice and thoughts and introduction than have a PR take over.
