It's an historical romance. I think it's a series. The heroine escapes to America, from England, because of a blackmail letter on the eve of her wedding. She comes back years later with her child . She meets the father's child and marries him. The heroine has a twin sister.

I also remember that after she ran away to America, because of the blackmail letter, her fiancè drank a lot and nearly drowned. His frends saved him. He has a poor relation with his family because his father think he isn't his legitimate son. I think the following bookin the series is the story of the twin sister
