Sam I'm interested in classic titles from each of their respective countries. Journey to the West for China, etc. Any recommendations?

Connie G (connie_g) | 934 comments Sam, Diane has a list of the 1001 books, which are mostly classics. They are listed according to their countries. That list is a wonderful resource. I've been trying to read more of the classics too.

Thanks. The list is nice and I'll get some inspiration for sure. But the list is based on the country of plot, not the country of writer. I want to read classic book for a country written by an autor from that country.

So I'm still looking for suggestions. :)

So then question 1 is, does it count for your purposes if an author currently resides in X country but was born elsewhere, or if an author was born in X country but who now resides in the US, for example?

Sam Let's say that if they reached adulthood in their country of birth, they could count as that country's writers.

Paula S (paula_s) | 9 comments Are you thinking about lists like Popular German Classics Books for different countries? If so I think it would be easier to answer your question if you told us which countries you are looking for right now.

Or, are you just looking for random suggestions for classic books from different countries like this:
Sweden: The Red Room by August Strindberg by August Strindberg August Strindberg

Sam Paula Yes, like this German list. Random countries are ok, I'm just starting. Let's say that Poland and Indonesia are excluded.
